What is an Ascension RN?

An Ascension RN is a Registered Nurse (RN) who works for Ascension, one of the largest nonprofit health systems in the United States. Ascension RNs provide patient care in various healthcare settings, such as hospitals, clinics, and specialty care centers operated by Ascension. Their duties include assessing patient needs, administering medications, collaborating with healthcare teams, and supporting patient recovery. Ascension emphasizes compassionate, personalized care rooted in its faith-based mission. RNs at Ascension also have access to continuing education and professional development opportunities.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Ascension Registered Nurse, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Ascension Registered Nurse, you need strong clinical expertise, patient assessment abilities, and an active RN license, often complemented by a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN). Familiarity with electronic health records (EHRs), clinical documentation systems, and specialized medical equipment is typically required. Compassion, teamwork, and effective communication are essential soft skills for building trust with patients and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams. These skills and qualities are vital for providing safe, high-quality care and ensuring positive health outcomes within Ascension’s patient-centered environment.

What are some common challenges Ascension RNs face when adapting to new units or specialties within the organization?

Ascension RNs often encounter challenges such as adjusting to different patient populations, learning new workflows, and adapting to varied technology systems across units or specialties.
