Job description

Tectonic is currently seeking an Asbestos Technician to support environmental and construction projects throughout the New York City metropolitan area. This position offers the opportunity to perform asbestos inspections, air monitoring, and project monitoring activities while receiving training in concrete testing and other special inspection services. This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated professional seeking career growth within a collaborative and multidisciplinary team environment.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
The essential functions of this position include traveling to project sites throughout New York City and the surrounding region to perform asbestos inspections in commercial, institutional, transportation, industrial, and residential environments. Responsibilities include collecting bulk samples of suspect materials, preparing chain-of-custody documentation, coordinating laboratory analysis, conducting asbestos air monitoring, and documenting findings in accordance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
This position will also support construction materials testing and special inspection services. Responsibilities may include collecting material samples, performing field testing of concrete and other construction materials, monitoring construction activities, utilizing testing equipment to verify compliance with project plans and specifications, and assisting with various special inspections. Training will be provided for qualified candidates in concrete testing and other inspection disciplines.
Additional responsibilities include preparing accurate field and inspection reports, maintaining project documentation, communicating with project managers, contractors, clients, and regulatory representatives, and performing all other duties as assigned. Occasional evening, weekend, and travel assignments may be required.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • High School Diploma or equivalent required;
  • Minimum 2 years of asbestos inspection, air monitoring, project monitoring, construction inspection, materials testing, or related experience preferred;
  • One or more of the following certifications strongly preferred:
    • NYS Asbestos Inspector
    • NYS Asbestos Project Monitor
    • NYS Asbestos Air Sampling Technician
    • NYC DEP Asbestos Investigator
    • NJ Asbestos Safety Technician
  • ACI Concrete Field Testing Technician Certification is a plus; training and certification support will be provided for qualified candidates;
  • OSHA safety training preferred; ability to obtain required certifications upon employment;
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to accurately document field observations and project findings;
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills;
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple assignments;
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, and PDF software;
  • Ability and willingness to travel regularly to project sites throughout the NYC metropolitan area, including occasional work outside normal business hours;
  • Valid driver's license and personal vehicle required.

PAY RANGE
Tectonic's goal is to compensate employees fairly and equitably across all positions Companywide. Our advertised pay ranges are representative of our good faith effort to provide a reasonable anticipated salary range. The offered pay may be outside of the provided salary range based upon the selected candidate's work location, experience, education, certifications, and capabilities compared to the advertised position.
Pay Range: $22.00 - $27.00 / hour
