Job Description:
As a Safety & Security ASAP Partner, you'll play a critical role in shaping and strengthening Southwest's safety culture by supporting the day-to-day execution and continuous improvement of the Aviation Safety Action Program (ASAP). You'll help manage the flow of events through the program, ensuring accurate documentation, timely review, and alignment with established procedures and agreements. Working closely with internal partners, the Event Review Committee (ERC), and external agencies like the FAA, you'll help ensure timely evaluation of events and drive meaningful corrective actions that enhance safety and security outcomes. In this high-trust, highly visible role, you'll translate complex safety data into clear insights, brief Leadership up to the executive level, and contribute to a proactive Safety Management System that helps keep Southwest's operation safe, compliant, and continuously improving.

Responsibilities
  • Assist ASAP Manager in daily operations and responsibilities
  • Develop, design, enhance, implement, evaluate and monitor policies, processes and procedures that enhance Safety and Security performance at Southwest Airlines
  • Communicates and promotes all aspects of the ASAP Program both verbally and in writing to all levels of Leadership/Employees
  • Manage and track all tools and systems for the ASAP Team
  • Collaborate and consults with various Southwest Airlines Teams (ASAP, Investigations, Irregularity Reporting [IR], Safety Reporting System [SRS], Safety Information Management Systems [SIMS], other SWA ASAPs) using reactive, proactive, and predictive methodologies for contributions to a complete Safety/Security Management System (SSeMS)
  • Prepare ASAP Quarterly reports for the FAA in accordance with the ASAP MOU and FAA regulations
  • Prepare professional presentations and reports
  • Provide documentation data from internal and external resources to assist in research of each ASAP event
  • Assist in coordination of research with outside agencies (e.g. ATC, FAA)
  • Coordinate a weekly Departmental summary of ASAP events discussed by the Event Review Committee (ERC)
  • May perform other job duties as directed by Employee's Leaders

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of computer software and skills including expert knowledge in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Knowledge of in Human Factors, SMS, and RRM concepts
  • Expert knowledge of current SWA organizations, operations, philosophies, and procedures
  • Skilled in analytics, research, problem solving, and investigative work
  • Skilled at developing training materials
  • Skilled in both written and verbal communication, including delivering presentations to small and large audiences, and all levels of Leadership
  • Skilled in project management and organizational abilities with the ability to manage multiple projects while maintaining attention to detail
  • Skilled in interpersonal relationships with ability to work independently and as a team player
  • Ability to work with all levels of the organization
  • Ability to work autonomously, effectively prioritizing assignments and using successful time management across shifting priorities to ensure team deliverables and operational needs are attained

Education
  • Required: High School Diploma or GED

Experience
  • Advanced level experience, seasoned and specialized knowledge in:
    • Commercial Airline Operations
    • Data collection and/or analysis
    • Aviation Safety Management Systems
    • Aviation industry and ASAP
    • FAR Part 121
    • Managing cross-functional working groups to effect change in Safety

  • Preferred: Experience using data analysis and visualization tools (e.g., Alteryx, Tableau) and working with data platforms such as Redshift and SQL Server

Licensing/Certification
  • Preferred: FAA Pilot or Aircraft Dispatcher certificate

Physical Abilities
  • Ability to perform work duties from desk for extended periods of time
  • Ability to communicate and interact with others in the English language to meet the demands of the job
  • Ability to use computer and other office productivity tools with sufficient speed and accuracy to meet the demands of the job

Other Qualifications
  • Must maintain a well-groomed appearance per Company appearance standards as described in established guidelines
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or have authorization to work in the United States as defined by the Immigration Reform Act of 1986
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Must be able to comply with Company attendance standards as described in established guidelines
  • Must meet confidentiality expectations as to confidential, proprietary, and sensitive Company information
  • May require extended work hours
  • Some business travel based on Company needs

Pay & Benefits:
Competitive market salary from $98,650 - $109,600* depending on qualifications and experience. For eligible Leadership and individual contributor roles, additional bonus opportunities are available and awarded at the discretion of the company.
