About Mount Royal Conservatory Mount Royal University's (MRU) Conservatory has played a pivotal role in Calgary's performing arts scene since 1911, enabling people of all ages and abilities to take part in the performing arts. No other performing arts organization has a comparable history or serves as large and diverse a community, from early childhood education through all stages of life. As an educational leader and innovator, it is the largest institution of its kind in Canada; the Conservatory is unique in the breadth and scope of its programming.
About the Role Please note there is a strong internal candidate for this position. Reporting to the Conservatory Director, the Program Facilitator - Speech Arts is responsible for the ongoing, daily success of the Conservatory's Speech Arts program. The incumbent will lead the design and delivery of the Speech Arts programs and curriculum, plan and monitor course budgets and schedules, student recruitment and enrollment, as well as instructor recruitment and training.
This role involves direct interaction with current and prospective students, staff in the Conservatory office, Conservatory instructors, and community stakeholders. New course, program, and outreach opportunity identification and development, including formal and informal needs assessment, is ongoing. The incumbent is required to work with confidential information and must exercise discretion and tact.
The work involves demanding and competing deadlines and requires a high level of accuracy and thoroughness. This is a part-time position working 17.5 hours per week. Responsibilities Program Administration (60%) Provide artistic direction and oversee the administration of the Speech program within the broader goals of the Conservatory
Create course materials, maintain and update curriculum, course outlines, and instructor guides. Coordinate and oversee the direct administration of the Speech Arts and Drama Program inclusive of Winter Fantasia, Presentation MRU, and other Speech related program events. Determine and oversee the program's scheduling in consultation with the relevant Program Coordinator.
Ensure all program materials comply with the applicable MRU copyright guidelines. Coordination, planning, and management of performance events. This is inclusive of festivals, masterclasses, recitals, professional development, and performance related assessment criteria for programs.
Work closely with the Program Coordinator, Facilities Coordinator, and Conservatory staff to ensure programs have appropriate space, set-ups, and that all course details are complete and accurate. Oversee student placement and registration for private lessons, group classes, and program offerings. Respond to student inquiries, provide program information as required and recommend appropriate program choices.
Responsible for ensuring program instructors are informed of Conservatory and program objectives and are working to ensure students are meeting or exceeding these objectives. Assist in the administration of scholarship and bursary awards for underprivileged/exceptional students when applicable. Responsible for maintaining the integrity of the program and ensuring program outcomes are achieved in all areas.
Identify program and area needs and make recommendations to the Director and Program Coordinator. Participate in budget discussions with the Conservatory Director and Program Coordinator when applicable. Adhere to Mount Royal University standards, policies, and guidelines.
Program Development (20%) Conduct and participate in meetings and assessments of the program in collaboration with the Conservatory Director, Program Coordinator, and stakeholders. Develop the artistic and curriculum blue print of the program and courses in consultation with the Conservatory Director, Program Coordinator, and stakeholders. Assess, together with the Director and Program Coordinator, the viability and development of program areas.
Together with the Conservatory Director, recruit and train Speech instructors. Guide instructional and artistic design and development of the program. Marketing and Public Relations (20%) Consult, when necessary, with the MarComm team to develop a comprehensive marketing strategy for the Speech Program identifying promotional opportunities and target markets.
Represent the program to internal and external stakeholders as well as the community at large. Respond to public requests for program information and community events. Other duties as assigned.
