General Function
The Martial Arts Instructor will be responsible and accountable for planning, conducting, and evaluating high quality classes, while informing and serving YMCA members and volunteers in a premier fashion.
Education/Experience/Training/Certifications
  • At minimum, a high school degree or equivalent is required
  • Experience working with children in a group setting is preferred, not required
  • CPR and First Aid certifications must be current within 30 days of hire
  • An understanding of physical education principles is essential as well as the ability to work with people of all ages and fitness levels

Job Duties & Responsibilities
  • Teaches members the proper and preferred technique for all exercises
  • Communicates positively with members by motivating them through creativity, personality, energy and enthusiasm
  • Maintains a neat, clean and pleasant environment throughout the entire YMCA and especially in the areas where the Martial Arts classes are held.
  • Maintains safety in all classes by following YMCA and national certification guidelines
  • Organizes, at a minimum, three family events for participants from the Martial Arts program
  • Informs members of new information regarding training, exercise safety and effectiveness
  • Performs other assigned duties as directed by Supervisor

Abilities & Skills
  • Physical ability to perform the classes they will be leading
  • Ability to communicate verbally to individuals and small groups, especially children
