Job description

Duties The primary purpose of this position is: To serve as an Air Reserve Technician (ART) Aircraft Maintenance Unit (AMU) Chief, exercising technical and administrative supervision over subordinate supervisors and workers engaged in ground handling, servicing, inspection, condition evaluation, test and repair of assigned and transient aircraft in an integrated environment. To train reservists in the duties and responsibilities set forth herein. DUTIES: DUTY 1: Performs work planning responsibilities. Plans on a quarterly or longer basis the overall use of personnel and other resources in a SGF controlled through one or more levels of supervision. Determines resource requirements, materials, and the number of employees and the types of skill necessary to accomplish long range work schedules. Allocates resources and distributes work to section chiefs and production supervisors to support a three-shift operation working 24 hours a day. Coordinates closely with associate counterparts on all requirements to maintain continuity, stability, seamless operations, and remain fully informed on all significant matters. Participates in meetings with supervisors, management, staff and supporting agency personnel to review and formulate plans, identify shortfalls impacting ability of SGF to fulfill production requirements, and coordinate budgetary requirements with allocations. DUTY 2: Performs work direction responsibilities. Assigns and explains work requirements and operating instructions to subordinate supervisors, sets deadlines and establishes the sequence of work operations to be followed. Maintains balanced workloads by shifting assignments, workers, and other resources to achieve the most effective work operations. Reviews and analyzes work accomplishments, cost, and utilization of subordinates to evaluate work progress, control costs, and anticipates and avoids possible problems by recommending corrective action to superiors. Participates with management officials and/or engineering personnel in developing qualitative and/or quantitative work standards. Evaluates work operations and reviews completed work and inspection reports to assure that standards are met. Coordinates work operations with the supervisors of other organizations and functions. DUTY 3: Performs administrative responsibilities. Participates with/through 2-3 levels of supervisors/employees involved in the maintenance production of a range of occupations including Electronic Integrated Systems Mechanics (AFIN and CNAD-2610), Aircraft Engine Mechanics (8602), Aircraft Electricians (2892), Aircraft Pneudraulic Systems Mechanics (8268), and Aircraft Mechanics (8852) at grades WG-10/11/12 in the development of performance plans. DUTY 4: Applies Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO)/Equal Opportunity Treatment (EOT) principles and requirements to all personnel management actions and decisions, and ensures all personnel are treated in a manner free of discrimination. Submits reports in accordance with reporting directives. Ensures safety equipment and protective clothing/gear are worn when mandated by regulations. Any condition which might pose a hazard to safety or health is reported to the appropriate. Reserve Training: Administers the reserve training and associated programs for the flight ensuring consistent standards throughout the flight for traditional reservists and ARTs. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. The screen out element for this position is: the ability to lead or supervise as a WS-8801-13, Aircraft Overhaul Supervisor, WG-8800 Aircraft Overhaul Family JOB ELEMENTS: Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: * Knowledge of a wide range of principles, processes, and techniques of trade(s) and/or craft(s) supervised. Knowledge of personnel management policies, practices, and procedures, including sexual harassment and Equal Employment Opportunity/ Equal Employment Treatment. * Knowledge of safety regulations, practices, and procedures. Knowledge in using and maintaining a variety of hand and power tools, equipment, and precision measuring and/or test equipment. * Knowledge in troubleshooting, inspecting, and/or tracing hard-to-locate defects or problems. Ability to read and interpret blueprints, diagrams, sketches, and technical specifications. * Ability to plan and organize work to include determining resources required to accomplish mission. Ability to manage overall direction and coordination of subordinate work activities and functions and implement sound personnel policies, practices, and procedures through subordinate supervisors. * Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing. * Comprehensive knowledge of assigned weapon systems including airframes, aircraft systems, and the interrelationships among systems and aircraft power plants, needed to make various operational checks and verify established performance limits. OTHER SIGNIFICANT FACTS: * This is an Air Reserve Technician (ART) position. The incumbent is required to meet and maintain Air Force Reserve requirements. Work schedule will be aligned to allow incumbent to fully participate in Unit Training Assemblies (UTA). The incumbent's regular assignments are ART duties; however, the incumbent may be assigned some non-ART duties, generally not to exceed 30 percent of total responsibilities. * May be required to fly in commercial and military aircraft to perform temporary/permanent duty assignments. * The work may require the employee to drive a motor vehicle. An appropriate, valid driver's license may be required for the position. * This is a drug testing designated position. The incumbent is subject to random testing for drug use. * This is a designated KEY position. The term "KEY" as it is used here relates to the ART program that defines the position as critical to mobilization capability (i.e., formulates, determines or influences policies of the unit to which assigned), and has no relationship to the term "KEY" as defined in AFI 36-507. * Performs other related duties as assigned.
