Job description

Definition Under general direction, is responsible for the management of community recreational center(s) and for the supervision of assigned recreation personnel; performs related duties as required. Preferred experience and skills Planning, coordinating, and promoting visual art programs and events. Collaborating with artists, performers, educators, and other art institutions.

Developing and implementing artistic programs and workshops. Budget management and administrative oversight of artistic programs or facilities. Leadership skills and employee development.

Community engagement. Examples of Work (Any one position may not include all of the duties listed, nor do the examples cover all of the duties that may be performed.) Supervises subordinate recreation personnel by making work assignments and schedules; monitoring and reviewing work performed; guiding and motivating subordinates; providing counseling, training, and/or orientation when needed; and evaluating subordinate performance in writing; conducts staff meetings on a regular basis; Recruits, trains, schedules, and supervises volunteers engaged in a variety of activities; Meets with and solicits input from advisory council and civic, business, neighborhood, school, and other community representatives to determine recreational interests and needs, guide recreational programs and activity planning, and to build relationships and collaborators in the community; makes formal presentations before these groups; Participates in the budget process by making recommendations for assigned recreation center; maintains records and prepares reports, memos, letters, and sections of various manuals; may prepare grant, financial, tax, inventory, or insurance reports; Investigates complaints directed toward programs, facility, and/or personnel and attempts to resolve problems; Coordinates participant and citizen communication/correspondence regarding variety of topics such as program policies, recreational facility rules, and activity participation; Manages the schedule for the community center with regard to rental availability, programming needs, and event planning; works with public to arrange for rental times for individual rooms or areas of the community center and ensures the provision of facility staff during a rental; Directs recreational programs, classes, activities, and/or special events at a recreation center and its adjacent grounds; Directs competitive activities and special events at a recreational center; schedules personnel to officiate and/or judge for various competitive events; ensures team and league standings and individual and group statistics are maintained and posted; Oversees the promotion of programs, activities, and special events by coordinating the preparation, posting, and/or distribution of flyers and posters, newsletter and newspaper articles, and press releases; Oversees the instruction of program participants in the fundamentals, rules, and techniques of various physical activities, arts and crafts, performing arts, domestic arts, nature activities, and table and group games; Oversees the issuance, inventory, and use of recreation center or major program equipment, materials, and supplies and the cleaning and maintenance of recreation facilities and adjacent grounds; moves throughout the facility to oversee the cleaning, maintenance, and readiness for participant use; takes action to remedy facility issues; Oversees the requisitioning of supplies, equipment, materials and services needed for major programs and individual or center classes, programs, and activities; Ensures safety protocol and procedures are adhered to by staff and center participants; Attends seminars, workshops, training sessions, meetings, and conferences; Conducts formal training sessions, clinics, and workshops in recreational specialty areas for recreation personnel, athletic officials, and special groups; May oversee kitchen facilities ensuring staffing of the kitchen, any required permits, and safety protocols are followed with regard to food service; May drive a City vehicle to transport program participants to activities and events. Minimum Qualifications Possession of a bachelor's degree and four (4) years of experience in the field of recreation

Substitution(s): Two (2) years of experience in the field of recreation or a closely related area may substitute for two (2) years of the required education on a year-for-year basis. A master's degree in a related field may substitute for one year of the required experience. Some positions may require the possession of a valid motor vehicle operator's license.
