The Alley has been awarded the prestigious Regional Theatre Tony Award and the Texas Medal of Arts Award. The Alley has transferred productions to Broadway, Off-Broadway, major European Festivals, and to 40 American cities. Unique among regional theatres, the Alley is committed to maintaining a Resident Acting Company and providing them with work year-round. Nationally recognized directors, actors, playwrights, and designers from across the country have regularly joined the Resident Acting Company.Led by Artistic Director Rob Melrose and Managing Director Jennifer Bielstein, the Alley focuses on delivering excellent programming to inspire and enchant lives through theater and prioritizes creating a welcoming environment for all.JOB STATEMENTAssistant Producer is a collaborator in the Artistic Department, providing overall department support, primarily in the preparation and execution of Alley Theatre productions.JOB DUTIESPRODUCINGCollaborate with the Artistic Department to ensure the Alley Theatreโ€™s vision is clearly articulated and communicated to staff and artistsServe as a liaison with other Alley Departments, facilitating communication between artists and staff, facilitating open interdepartmental communications, collaborating on various theatre-wide initiatives, and helping set priorities where necessaryIn collaboration with the Artistic Director and the Associate Artistic Directors, participate in the selection and dissemination of information regarding the plays and creative teams for the season, including the Alley All New Festival, and other programming such as workshops, readings, and panel discussions. This includes reading scripts for the Artistic DepartmentRepresent the Artistic staff as a show-lead on assigned productionsCompile and distribute weekly Artistic Meeting AgendasTake thorough notes during meetingsFacilitate Alley Chats and/or Designer Talks, as neededAttend these production milestones: First Rehearsal, Designer Run and Opening Nights.Attend creative concept meetings, production meetings, rehearsals, and previews, as assignedAttend all Alley departmental meetings as assignedCollaborate with the Marketing and Communications Department on ensuring all marketing materials, production photos, and lobby displays are representative of the organization and specific showโ€™s artistic aesthetic.Support the Associate Artistic Director of Producing with Marketing Photoshoot correspondence and attendance, as needed.Work with Associate Artistic Director of Producing on coordinating the Alleyโ€™s involvement in the University of Houston/Alley Theatre MFA in Acting.This may include scheduling, recruitment, teaching, directing, and other means of creative support.Additional duties as assignedCASTINGAssist Associate Artistic Director of Producing on the coordination and management of all aspects of auditions and casting for all Alley productions, readings, and workshops.Attend productions, events, and forums related to the Houston theatre community as a representative of the Alley Theatre and as means for local actor and artist recruitment.Upkeep Casting and Creative Artist DatabaseAdditional duties as assigned.DIRECTINGAssistant Direct productions as assigned.
