About This Role

The Kids Worship Arts (KWA) Director leads the church's music and worship arts ministry for children in grades K-5. Working collaboratively with church staff and volunteers, the director plans and leads creative, faith-based programming that may include vocal and instrumental music, visual arts, dance, theater, and other artistic expressions. Programming is typically offered one afternoon or evening each week, with participants sharing in worship approximately once each month. The position offers flexibility for the director to shape the ministry according to their gifts and experience, with additional opportunities that may include seasonal productions and optional summer programming.


What You'll Do
  • Plan and lead weekly Kids Worship Arts programming in collaboration with the Director of Music and Worship Arts.
  • Coordinate monthly participation in Sunday worship services.
  • Recruit, train, and support volunteers while ensuring compliance with Safe Sanctuaries policies.
  • Foster a welcoming, creative environment that encourages participation and artistic expression,
  • Communicate regularly with participants, families, volunteers, and church staff.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements
  • Demonstrates a personal Christian faith and supports the mission and ministry of Blacksburg United Methodist Church.
  • Experience in one or more fine arts disciplines (music, visual arts, dance, theater, etc.).
  • Enjoys working with children and fostering their spiritual growth through the arts.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Is dependable, collaborative, organized, and creative.
  • Experience in church music or worship ministry is preferred.

Benefits
  • Position is part-time, approximately 5 hours per week, from September through May.
