Art Law Associates are legal professionals who specialize in the unique legal issues related to the art world, such as intellectual property, provenance, authenticity, cultural property, and the buying, selling, and loaning of artworks. They work with artists, collectors, museums, galleries, and auction houses to navigate contracts, resolve disputes, and ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulations. Art Law Associates often assist with matters like copyright infringement, restitution claims, and international import/export issues.

What are some common challenges faced by art law associates in managing disputes over art ownership and provenance?

Art Law Associates often encounter complex challenges when handling disputes related to ownership and provenance due to the international nature of art transactions, historical gaps in documentation, and varying legal frameworks across jurisdictions. Investigating the chain of title requires meticulous research, coordination with experts, and sometimes negotiation with multiple parties. These cases can involve sensitive cultural, ethical, and legal considerations, making strong analytical, negotiation, and communication skills vital for success in this role.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an art law associate, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Art Law Associate, you need a Juris Doctor (JD) degree, admission to the bar, and a solid understanding of intellectual property, contract, and cultural property law. Familiarity with legal research platforms like Westlaw or LexisNexis, as well as experience with case management software, is typically required. Exceptional negotiation, analytical thinking, and effective communication skills help you navigate complex transactions and build strong client relationships. These skills are crucial for protecting clients' legal interests in the art world and ensuring compliance with evolving regulations.

Job description

We are in relentless pursuit of an equitable and inspiring workplace that is respectful of all, reflects and represents the world in which we live, and fosters trust, collaboration and belonging. Consistent with this approach, we hire the best qualified candidates for all positions.

UEG is looking for a seasoned Associate Creative Director-Art to work on a strong roster of influential brands across entertainment, sports, lifestyle, food and beverage, tech, hospitality, fashion, and consumer goods brands. This role calls for a big thinker able to ideate culturally relevant, PRโ€‘able ideas capable of generating national earned media, from conception to creation. The right candidate will leverage their passion for cultural trends in social, sports, fashion, beauty, music, and design to create everything from stunts, IRL experiences, and events to traditional TVC and radio campaigns in a fastโ€‘paced environment. Our team drives some of the worldโ€™s most buzzโ€‘worthy work, like Samsungโ€™s Live on the Edge, the Kith x Tony the Tiger partnership, and the launch of adidasโ€™ latest line of golf shorts at the 2026 PGA Tour Championship. Here, we donโ€™t just follow culture; we aim to change it. This is not a plugโ€‘andโ€‘play role. As an earnedโ€‘first agency, we shape our ideas around the story we want to tellโ€”not the media plan. What we sell in shifts with every brief โ€“ one day itโ€™s a reactive TikTok idea, the next itโ€™s a 360 campaign with PR, influencer, digital, and brand film components. Weโ€™re looking for sharp thinkers and culture junkies who thrive in creative chaos. Most of the work we do is projectโ€‘based, so you should be wellโ€‘versed and built to handle the ups and downs of heavily pitchโ€‘based work.

You Should Be:
  • Strategic and collaborative, with a proven track record of big ideas and big wins
  • Experienced in 360 campaigns with an earnedโ€‘first mindset
  • Obsessed with making smart, standout, awardโ€‘winning work
  • Passionate about trends, internet culture, music, entertainment and sports, with an eye towards nuance and craft
  • Able to thrive in crossโ€‘functional environments, uniting creative, strategy, production, social and more to produce breakthrough work
  • Egoโ€‘free, selfโ€‘starting, and deeply teamโ€‘and detailโ€‘oriented
Responsibilities
  • Work in partnership with an Associate Creative Directorโ€‘Copywriter and at the direction of creative leadership to concept and plan execution of integrated campaigns and programs across a wide range of media and platforms, especially social, digital, video, experiences and content
  • Create and design campaign ideas for client projects and new business pitches that are earnedโ€‘first and social by design
  • Work in concert with a wide range of specialties including account, strategy, project management, and influencer
  • Develop tactics which bring creative concepts to life and achieve program objectives
  • Manage multiple jobs simultaneously; managing and providing direction to other team members as needed
  • Work closely with a project manager and production partners to schedule projects and coordinate production
  • Prepare and present client creative presentations; drive clientโ€‘approval process
  • Work effectively with external vendors and internal colleagues to complete projects within timeframe and budget
Qualifications
  • At least 6 yearsโ€™ experience managing dayโ€‘toโ€‘day changes at every level of detail and handling them with a teamโ€‘oriented, entrepreneurial spirit
  • A bachelorโ€™s degree, preferably in Fine Arts, Advertising or Graphic Design, or relevant work experience
  • Experience maintaining client contact as needed and assisting with budget and schedule development
  • Ability to prioritize and manage work, adhering to critical project timelines in a fastโ€‘paced environment
  • A professionalโ€‘level mastery of industry standard design software and tools including the full suite of Adobe Creative Cloud
  • Production experience in art direction and design for video, digital and social platforms
  • Pride in your previous work and the ability to speak to it clearly and concisely during the interview process

Applications submitted without a portfolio will not be considered.

$105,000-175,000 per year

Other rewards may include annual bonuses, a Paid Time Off policy, and regionโ€‘specific benefits.
