With experience and training in aromatherapy, you can find jobs in several professional fields, including herbal medicine, massage therapy, yoga, reiki, integrative medicine, and nursing. Your responsibilities may vary somewhat depending on your specialization, but within each field your duties require extensive knowledge of aromatherapy principles. You also need an understanding of essential oils, which are plant extracts and compounds, and the treatment applications and benefits of each type of oil. A baseline understanding of health care is necessary for herbal and integrative medicine as well as in nursing, for obvious reasons. Regardless of what role you find, you must be able to identify the right oils for a client’s needs, blend and apply oils to the skin safely, and keep confidential records when you consult with clients.
