Job description

Position Summary

The Salvation Army Northern Division Headquarters (DHQ) in Roseville, MN, is committed to "Doing the Most Good" by supporting worship, housing, and service centers, and addressing community needs across Minnesota and North Dakota.

The Lead Facilities Manager is responsible for coordinating facilities maintenance, repair, and improvement projects across Twin Cities Salvation Army properties. The position provides technical leadership for commercial building systems, supports site-based maintenance staff, oversees contractors and projects, and assists the Divisional Property Manager in maintaining safe, efficient, and well-maintained facilities.

$31.54 - $35.58 per hour, 40 hours per week

Essential Functions (Approximate time spent)

All work is performed within the scope of applicable training, licensure, and safety regulations.

  • Facilities Maintenance & Technical Support (35%): Perform and coordinate preventative, routine, corrective, and emergency maintenance across Twin Cities Salvation Army facilities. Troubleshoot, inspect, repair, and support HVAC (including boilers and controls), electrical, plumbing, carpentry, vehicles, grounds, and other building systems while completing assigned work orders.
  • Project Management & Contractor Coordination (20%): Evaluate facility needs, develop project recommendations, coordinate repairs and improvements, oversee contractors and vendors, monitor project progress, and communicate with site leadership and the Divisional Property Manager.
  • Preventative Maintenance & Asset Management (15%): Maintain preventative maintenance programs, inspect and monitor building systems, maintain required records and boiler logs, and support licensing, inspections, and equipment lifecycle planning.
  • Technical Leadership & Staff Support (15%): Provide technical guidance, training, and functional oversight to site maintenance staff. Assist with complex troubleshooting, promote safe work practices, and support consistent maintenance standards throughout the Division.
  • Risk Management & Regulatory Compliance (10%): Promote safe facility operations by identifying hazards, supporting compliance with applicable codes, OSHA requirements, and organizational policies, and recommending improvements that protect Salvation Army facilities and occupants.
  • Divisional Property Support (5%): Support the Divisional Property Manager through facility assessments, technical recommendations, project planning, contractor coordination, and other property management initiatives.

Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or GED required; technical or trade school training preferred.
  • Five or more years of commercial building maintenance experience, including HVAC, boilers, electrical, plumbing, and carpentry.
  • Must possess a Minnesota Special Engineer Boiler License or obtain one within 120 days of employment. The Salvation Army supports continued boiler licensure advancement to meet organizational needs.
  • Valid driver's license, acceptable MVR, and DOT Medical Examiner's Certificate (or ability to obtain within 90 days).
  • Must pass background checks.

Competencies

  • Working knowledge of commercial building systems and maintenance practices.
  • Strong troubleshooting, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Proficient with computers and standard office equipment.

Working Conditions

  • Perform the physical requirements of the position, including standing, walking, bending, reaching, climbing, and lifting up to 75 pounds.
  • Work indoors and outdoors in varying weather and facility conditions.
  • Position is not eligible for remote work.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Provide technical guidance and training to site maintenance staff; no direct supervisory responsibilities.

Driving/Travel Requirements

  • Frequent travel throughout the Twin Cities with occasional travel throughout the Northern Division using Salvation Army vehicles.
