Production Assistant / Driver - The Salvation Army Adult Rehabilitation Center (ARC)

Location: Kansas City, MO

Pay Range: $15.00 per hour
Schedule: Full-time | Flexible shifts, including some weekends

Position Overview

The Production Assistant / Driver operates a Salvation Army box truck to safely collect and transport donated goods, supporting our Adult Rehabilitation Center's mission. This hands-on role blends warehouse operations, donor interaction, and safe driving practices within DOT and OSHA standards.


Key Responsibilities
  • Professionally represent The Salvation Army, ensuring every donor is treated courteously and respectfully.

  • Safely operate a DOT-regulated box truck to complete scheduled donation pickups and deliveries.

  • Load and unload donations with care, ensuring item integrity and vehicle organization.

  • Follow assigned routes and schedules using mobile dispatch tools (DSS / iPad).

  • Maintain effective communication with dispatch, warehouse, and supervisory staff.

  • Support program beneficiaries in achieving work-therapy goals through guidance and mentoring.

  • Complete daily pre- and post-trip inspections to verify air, oil, water, tires, lights, and safety equipment.

  • Ensure full compliance with DOT and OSHA regulations and organizational safety standards.

  • Immediately report any accidents, injuries, property damage, or safety concerns.

  • Wear all assigned personal protective equipment (PPE) such as gloves, masks, or back guards.

  • Maintain neat appearance and adhere to Salvation Army dress code for drivers.

  • Be available for flexible hours, including early mornings, late evenings, or weekends.

  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.


Qualifications
  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent required.

  • Experience: Minimum 2 years of licensed driving experience operating trucks or similar vehicles.

  • Licenses / Certifications:

    • Valid state driver's license (Kansas or Missouri) with a clean MVR.

    • A DOT-compliant license appropriate for operating a box truck in the state of residence.

    • A current Medical Examiner's Certificate (Med Card) as required by federal and state DOT regulations.

    • Must successfully pass DOT physical, drug screen, and background check prior to hire.

  • Skills / Abilities:

    • Strong communication and customer-service skills.

    • Basic computer and mobile-device proficiency (for routing and reporting).

    • Ability to perform basic math and follow written and verbal instructions.

    • Ability to regularly lift up to 50 lbs and occasionally up to 100 lbs.

    • Good hearing, vision, and manual dexterity required.


Work Environment
  • Warehouse and on-road driving environment with moderate noise and dust exposure.

  • Work may involve temperature fluctuations and frequent physical activity such as lifting, walking, and bending.

Education & Experience

  • High School Degree or equivalent
  • At least two years licensed drivingexperience
