Job description

Schedule/Hours: Part-time hours as scheduled. May include evenings, overnight shifts, weekends, and holidays based on shelter operations.

This position is responsible for:
The Housing Monitor performs a variety of functions to ensure the safety, security, and well-being of shelter residents and the facility. This position monitors residents' daily activities, maintains documentation and records, assists with administrative duties, helps mediate resident conflicts, and supports the overall operation of the shelter in accordance with The Salvation Army's mission.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Monitor residents' daily activities, including passes, medication tracking, and general whereabouts.
  • Maintain accurate records, shelter logs, resident tracking information, and computer data entry.
  • Collect and document urinalysis and breathalyzer test results and report information as directed. 
  • Mediate conflicts between residents and help maintain a safe and orderly environment. 
  • Perform housekeeping and administrative duties, including cleaning common areas, laundry, answering phones, filing, and maintaining shelter facilities.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:

  • Ability to deal with people maturely and professionally.
  • Ability to meet attendance requirements. 
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate in the English language. 
  • Ability to lift light objects weighing less than 24 pounds. 
  • Work is performed in a shelter/lodge environment and office setting with minimal exposure to adverse conditions.

  • Knowledge of the 12-step recovery process. 
  • Ability to understand and respond appropriately to group dynamics and resident interactions.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, and conflict resolution skills.
