Armed Security Guards are trained and licensed to carry firearms, often working in high-risk environments or handling valuable assets. Unarmed Security Guards typically focus on monitoring and access control without weapons, suitable for lower-risk settings. Both roles require security training and background checks, but armed guards have additional firearm permits. The choice depends on the security needs of the employer and the environment.

Do armed security guards get paid more?

Armed security guards typically earn higher wages than unarmed guards due to the additional training, licensing, and responsibility involved in handling firearms. Their pay can also vary based on location, experience, and the specific employer or industry they work in. Certifications such as firearm permits often contribute to higher compensation.

How to become an armed security guard?

To become an armed security guard, applicants must typically be at least 21 years old, pass a criminal background check, complete a state-approved training course that covers firearm handling and security procedures, and obtain a firearm permit or license. Additional requirements may include a clean driving record and fingerprinting, depending on state regulations.

Is it worth becoming an armed security guard?

Becoming an armed security guard can offer higher pay and increased responsibility compared to unarmed roles, but it also requires additional training, licensing, and the ability to handle potentially dangerous situations. The job often involves shift work, physical presence at various sites, and adherence to strict regulations. Whether it is worth it depends on personal career goals and willingness to meet licensing requirements and handle the job's risks.
