Mechanical General Superintendent

Workspire

Lubbock, TX โ€ข On-site

$65 - $75/hr

Per diem

Job description

General Superintendent (Mechanical)

Location: West Texas (relocation and per diem support available)

Compensation: $156,000 annual base, plus daily per diem, monthly vehicle allowance, and a project-based performance bonus

About the Opportunity:

Workspire is partnering with a rapidly scaling national self-perform industrial services contractor to hire a General Superintendent, Mechanical, for a hyperscale data center build in West Texas. This is one of the most in-demand construction environments in the country, and our client is capturing a growing share of it through a multi-craft, self-perform model built on direct-hire craft, a safety-first culture, and disciplined field execution.

This is a field leadership role for an operator who runs the labor engine. You will direct a large direct-hire craft force across multiple units, own process piping and equipment setting execution, and set the productivity and safety standard on a demanding, fast-moving site. As the client expands across the South region, this role carries a clear path into multi-project leadership.

We are looking for a subcontractor-grown mechanical leader who wants real ownership, a serious build to point to, and a long runway. If you have led self-perform craft on complex mechanical work and want your next chapter to be a marquee project, this is worth a conversation.

What you will do:

  • Within the first 6 to 12 months, stand up and stabilize mechanical field execution across multiple units, directing 150 to 200 or more craft safely and productively.
  • Own process piping (carbon steel and stainless steel) and equipment setting execution, including rigging and precise placement of major mechanical equipment.
  • Drive labor productivity, manpower planning, and crew leveling, turning aggressive schedule targets into a repeatable field rhythm.
  • Standardize a safety-first culture across every crew and unit, making the client's standard identical everywhere.
  • Help staff the ramp from your own craft network, then mentor the field leadership bench beneath you.
  • Grow into a multi-project regional leader as the client expands across Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, and Arkansas.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

  • Three or more years of hyperscale data center construction experience.
  • Deep process piping expertise (carbon steel or stainless steel) and hands-on equipment setting capability.
  • Subcontractor-side, self-perform field leadership, with experience dealing with general contractors and owners from the subcontractor seat.
  • A track record directing 150 to 200 or more direct-hire craft across multiple units or sites.
  • Willingness to be based in or travel to West Texas and to move with the work across the South region.
  • Preferred: millwright background, a strong craft network able to self-staff a project, and OSHA 30.

If you are excited about this role but do not meet every qualification, we still encourage you to apply. We value candidates who meet 80 to 85 percent of the core criteria and bring a strong capacity to learn.

Why this role stands out:

  • A marquee hyperscale data center build with genuine technical ownership and visibility to senior leadership.
  • A package designed to move the right person: a strong hourly rate, daily per diem, monthly vehicle allowance, and a project-based performance bonus.
  • A long runway into multi-project regional field leadership with a company in aggressive growth mode.
