Description
The Compute and Storage Engineering Lead is responsible for the architecture, engineering, performance optimization, resiliency planning, and lifecycle management of enterprise compute and storage infrastructure supporting mission-critical applications and enterprise services.
Location: Rockville, MD
Salary: 130,000-172,000
Clearance: Secret or L Clearance
Responsibilities:
โ€ข Design, engineer, and support VMware cluster environments, physical host infrastructure, and associated compute resources, ensuring high availability, optimal capacity utilization, and compliance with enterprise uptime and SLA requirements.
โ€ข Administer enterprise SAN and NAS storage platforms, including LUN provisioning, storage allocation, replication configuration, performance tuning, and capacity forecasting to support database, application, and virtual machine workloads.
โ€ข Ensure integration between storage systems and enterprise backup platforms such as Commvault, validating backup operations, snapshot management, and replication alignment with disaster recovery objectives.
โ€ข Monitor compute and storage performance using enterprise monitoring tools, proactively addressing latency, resource contention, and capacity constraints to prevent service degradation.
โ€ข Lead infrastructure lifecycle management and technology refresh initiatives, developing modernization roadmaps and presenting recommendations to senior IT leadership during governance reviews.
โ€ข Participate in Change Advisory Board (CAB) processes to ensure compute and storage changes are properly risk assessed, documented, tested, and approved prior to production deployment.
โ€ข Support disaster recovery and continuity of operations exercises by validating cluster failover capabilities and storage replication integrity in coordination with DR stakeholders.
Requirements
โ€ข Bachelor's Degree and 8+ years of relevant experience engineering and supporting enterprise compute and storage infrastructure.
โ€ข Strong experience designing and optimizing VMware cluster and hypervisor environments.
โ€ข Advanced knowledge of SAN and NAS architectures, storage replication technologies, and performance optimization techniques.
โ€ข Experience with storage provisioning, LUN management, tiering strategies, and long-term capacity planning.
โ€ข Experience integrating storage platforms with enterprise backup solutions such as Commvault.
โ€ข Knowledge of high-availability architectures and failover design principles.
โ€ข Experience using enterprise monitoring tools for compute and storage performance analysis.
โ€ข Familiarity with infrastructure lifecycle planning and hardware modernization strategies.
โ€ข Preferred certifications: VMware Certified Professional (VCP); NetApp Certified Data Administrator (NCDA) or equivalent storage certification.
