R&D Lab Technician II Technical & Prototyping Focus
Job Title: R&D Lab Technician II
Location: Covington, GA
Employment Type: Full-Time, Hourly
Department: Urology and Critical Care Product Development
Reports To: Sr Staff Engineer, Product Development
Position Summary:
This advanced technician role supports early-stage product development, prototyping, and routine testing activities. The ideal candidate will have hands-on experience with electronics, instrumentation, and software tools to assist in building and testing innovative medical devices, while also performing standard laboratory testing and documentation tasks.
Key Responsibilities:
Design and build prototype systems using Arduino, Raspberry Pi, or similar platforms.
Develop and execute test setups involving sensors, actuators, and data acquisition systems.
Use LabVIEW or similar software for automated testing and data logging.
Troubleshoot hardware and software issues in prototype systems.
Specify and source instrumentation as needed to implement test procedures.
Conduct routine physical, chemical, and mechanical testing of prototypes and components.
Prepare samples and test setups according to defined protocols.
Record and analyze test data, generating clear and accurate reports.
Maintain and calibrate lab equipment and ensure cleanliness.
Follow Good Laboratory Practices (GLP), Good Documentation Practices (GDP), and safety procedures.
Support documentation for design verification and validation activities.
Interface with engineering teams to refine designs and test plans.
Qualifications
Associates or Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or related technical field.
35 years of experience in a technical lab, prototyping, or product development environment (minimum 2 years required).
Ability to conduct routine physical, chemical, and mechanical tests.
Proficiency with LabVIEW, Arduino, and basic circuit design.
Familiarity with mechanical and electrical lab tools and instrumentation.
Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently.
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word for documentation and reporting.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
