What is an Arduino developer?

An Arduino Developer is responsible for designing, developing, and testing projects using Arduino microcontrollers. They write and debug code, integrate sensors and modules, and create prototypes for automation, IoT, robotics, and embedded systems. Their role may also include troubleshooting hardware issues, optimizing performance, and ensuring system reliability.

What are the common daily responsibilities of an Arduino developer?

As an Arduino Developer, your daily tasks typically involve designing, coding, and testing embedded systems using the Arduino platform. You may also build and debug electronic circuits, integrate sensors or actuators, and write firmware to achieve specific functions. Collaboration is common, as you will often work with hardware engineers, software developers, and product managers to refine system requirements and bring projects from prototype to completion. Additionally, documenting your code and creating clear technical reports are important responsibilities. This role is dynamic and hands-on, providing the opportunity to see your engineering solutions come to life in tangible products.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive in the Arduino developer position?

To thrive as an Arduino Developer, you need strong knowledge of embedded systems, C/C++ programming, and electronics fundamentals, often supported by a degree in electrical engineering or a related field. Familiarity with the Arduino IDE, sensor integration, and circuit design tools is essential, and certifications in embedded systems can be advantageous. Engineering Technician - Materials

Neuralink

South San Francisco, CA • On-site

Full-time

Job description

Team Description:

The Materials Engineering Team at Neuralink develops and qualifies high-performance, biocompatible materials for next-generation brain-computer interfaces. The team owns material characterization, hermetic packaging reliability, accelerated lifetime testing, and predictive simulation for implantable neural devices. We operate at the intersection of physical testing and computational modeling, closing the loop between experiment and simulation to drive implant design decisions. A core part of our work is running high-throughput hardware reliability test programs - thermal benchtop testing and Accelerated Lifetime Testing - that generate the data behind our longevity and safety claims.

Job Description and Responsibilities:

We are hiring an Engineering Technician to own the hands-on build, run, and maintenance of the Materials Team's hardware and reliability test programs. The goal is to offload manual test execution so our engineers can focus on design, modeling, and analysis. This is a hands-on lab role for someone who likes to build, instrument, and run tests at high throughput, maintain rigorous data quality, and grow their skills across thermal and reliability testing. In addition, the Engineering Technician will:

  • Build and assemble test fixtures and apparatus: mechanical assembly, wiring, and sensor/actuator install per BOM; design basic fixtures; calibrate equipment and run acceptance checks
  • Run benchtop test sequences end-to-end: setup, instrument hookup (thermocouples, sensors, cameras), execution, data capture, and basic processing
  • Monitor running tests daily; log and escalate anomalies; perform first-line fault fixing across mechanical, fluidic, and electrical subsystems
  • Maintain test stations, rigs, and lab equipment; manage parts inventory, BOM upkeep, ordering, and kitting
  • Keep test data and build / test procedures (SOPs) organized to a defined standard; support lab/equipment moves and re-validation

Required Qualifications:

  • Hands-on experience in a laboratory, prototyping, or test environment - e.g., fixture design, mechanical assembly, microcontroller work, coding, or wet-lab/data-collection experience
  • Working familiarity with data-collection instrumentation (specific instruments are coachable on the job)
  • Strong technical aptitude and a demonstrated ability to learn new test methods quickly
  • Careful, organized approach to high-throughput testing while maintaining high data quality

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field
  • Coding: Python, C++, Arduino
  • Microcontroller work (demonstrates familiarity with circuitry, PCBs, and firmware flashing)
  • Soldering experience
  • Data analysis skills
  • Prior experience in a hardware test/reliability lab
  • High dexterity

Expected Compensation:

At Neuralink, your base pay is one part of your total compensation package. The anticipated hourly rate for this position is expected to be within the below range. Your actual base pay will be determined by your job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.

Hourly Range:
$26.44 - $35.10/Hr USD
