| Industry Usage | Specific to Arctic regions, targeting cold-water species | Global, includes various fishing regions and species |
Arctic Fishing involves working in extreme cold Arctic waters with specialized safety and fishing certifications, focusing on cold-water species. Both roles require licensing and safety training but differ mainly in environment and geographic focus.

Job description
UAF is Alaska's research university and America's Arctic university. Successful applicants will enjoy opportunities to join CFOS's world-class high-latitude teaching and research programs in marine, estuarine, and freshwater ecosystems. CFOS offers a B.S. in Fisheries and Marine Sciences, a B.A. in Fisheries, Minors in Marine Science and Fisheries, Master of Marine Policy, Master of Marine Studies and Blue MBA degree programs, as well as M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Oceanography, Marine Biology and Fisheries. The College has over 50 faculty, researchers and staff, more than 125 graduate students, and one of the nation's largest undergraduate degree programs in fisheries and marine sciences. The Department of Fisheries maintains a nationally and internationally recognized, growing program that includes 15 tenured or tenure-track faculty, one research faculty, and nine other faculty with primary appointments outside of the department.
To thrive in this role, candidates will be expected to develop and lead a productive and externally funded research program focused on fisheries biology, ecology, management, or social sciences. This research program should emphasize Alaska's fisheries and ecosystems and involve students and postdoctoral researchers. Candidates will also be expected to teach undergraduate and graduate courses, with a particular focus on the undergraduate fisheries program through both instruction and advising.
Minimum Qualifications:
Qualified applicants must have a Ph.D. in fisheries, biology, ecology, economics, anthropology, or a closely related field. Postdoctoral research experience is preferred. Applicants must be proficient in English, have experience teaching at the university level, and have a strong research, publication and funding record, commensurate with experience.
An unrestricted Alaska driver's license and clean driving record in compliance with UA Safe Driving criteria is required.

We welcome applicants to bring their unique perspectives and identities through their culture, national origin, ethnicity, race, gender, sexual orientation, veteran status, disability, age, religion and beliefs.
Position Details:
This is a full-time, Fair Labor Standards Act exempt, tripartite tenure-track faculty position, providing both a competitive salary (starting pay is DOE) and full employee benefits package . UA provides a generous compensation package that includes retirement options, faculty time off, 12 paid holidays per year, tuition waivers for employees and family members, and affordable medical, dental and vision care coverage.
This position will be based on the main Troth Yedda' campus in Fairbanks, Alaska (population ~95,000).
