What does an architectural model builder do?

An Architectural Model Builder creates physical scale models of buildings and landscapes to help architects, designers, and clients visualize projects. They use materials like wood, plastic, foam, and 3D-printed components to construct detailed and accurate representations. These models help with design decisions, presentations, and marketing. Model builders need precision, creativity, and knowledge of architectural plans and materials to bring designs to life.

What skills and qualifications are needed to be an architectural model builder?

Job description

Model-Based Systems Engineer
The Opportunity:
Are you looking for an opportunity to combine your technical skills with big picture thinking to make an impact on advancing Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE) practices to help build a digital engineering (DE) cloud platform ecosystem for the DoD? You understand your customer's environment and how to architect and develop, with the support of DevSecOps engineers, the right DE ecosystem for their mission. Your ability to translate real-world needs into technical specifications makes you an integral part of delivering a customer-focused DE solution.
As a Model-Based Systems Engineer on our team, you'll work with Booz Allen colleagues and the U.S. Air Force to enable science and technology digital transformation. Your customer will trust you to not only analyze, evaluate, architect, and assist the government with modeling these DE capabilities and systems, but also identifying areas requiring urgent mitigation up-front and early, or suggesting ways to enhance user experience to develop this system with advanced technology solutions. Grow your skills by merging innovative engineering methodologies and cross-disciplinary coordination to create tomorrow's solutions. Join our team and create the future of digital transformation in the Air Force.
Join us. The world can't wait.
You Have:
  • 5+ years of experience designing and architecting large-scale, cloud-based applications, including leading architecture sessions and providing implementation guidance
  • Experience using an MBSE approach to manage system definitions and technical baselines
  • Knowledge of industry-accepted standards and best practices for strategic planning, portfolio management, and architecture development and management, including UAF, EA, DoDAF, BPMN, UML, SysML, ERD, and IDEF methods
  • Knowledge of developing and reviewing enterprise architecture, including in support of transformation, system development, and governance and compliance of IT systems for the DoD such as FISMA or the Clinger-Cohen Act
  • Ability to comprehend stakeholder needs effectively and communicate them via architecture models
  • Ability to successfully work on cross-functional projects and teams
  • Secret clearance
  • Bachelor's degree in a STEM field

Nice If You Have:
  • Experience working with solution architects to decompose application components and determine how to leverage various technologies found with modern cloud services
  • Experience with advanced analytics, data science, including MI, ML, or RPA, integration, API, microservices, and user experience
  • Experience supporting overall systems engineering and integration efforts for the DoD, government agencies, or commercial programs
  • Experience with Agile methodologies, including sprint planning, creating, and completing user stories and tasks, and using common Agile tools such as Jira
  • Knowledge of systems engineering standards, including IEEE 15288.1 and IEEE 15288.2
  • Master's degree
  • INCOSE Systems Engineering Professional (SEP) Certifications such as Associate SEP (ASEP), Certified SEP (CSEP), and Expert SEP (ESEP) Certifications
  • SysML Certifications such as OCSMP Model User (MU), Model Builder Fundamental (MBF), Model Builder Intermediate (MBI), and Model Builder Advanced (MBA) Certifications

Clearance:
Applicants selected will be subject to a security investigation and may need to meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information; Secret clearance is required.
