Position Overview

The Wooden Roof and Floor Truss Designer is responsible for the accurate, efficient, and code-compliant design of wood roof and floor truss systems for residential, commercial, and light industrial construction projects. This position requires the ability to interpret construction documents, apply structural design principles, and produce detailed truss layouts and fabrication drawings using industry-standard design software. The designer collaborates with engineering, sales, production, and customer teams to ensure designs meet structural requirements, manufacturing capabilities, and project schedules.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design wood roof and floor truss systems in accordance with project specifications, engineering standards, and applicable building codes.
  • Utilize approved truss design software (e.g., MiTek, Alpine, or equivalent) to produce truss designs, placement diagrams, and shop drawings.
  • Interpret architectural and structural plans to determine appropriate truss configurations, load requirements, and support conditions.
  • Perform structural analysis and verify load calculations for gravity, wind, snow, and seismic forces as applicable.
  • Coordinate with engineers, architects, builders, and internal departments to address design questions, resolve conflicts, and support constructability.
  • Revise truss designs based on project changes, engineering reviews, or customer requests while maintaining compliance and efficiency.
  • Ensure designs adhere to company standards, TPI guidelines, and local, state, and national building codes.
  • Provide technical clarification and support to manufacturing, delivery, and field personnel as needed.
  • Maintain complete and organized design documentation within established project timelines.

Required Qualifications

  • Associate degree or higher in Engineering, Drafting, Construction Technology, or a related field, or equivalent industry experience.
  • Previous experience in wood truss design preferred.
  • Proficiency with truss design software and CAD-based drawing tools.
