Architectural Designer Project Manager information

How does an Architectural Designer Project Manager typically balance creative design work with project management responsibilities?

Architectural Designer Project Managers often juggle both creative and managerial duties, requiring strong time management and organizational skills. They collaborate closely with design teams to develop innovative solutions while also coordinating schedules, budgets, and client communications to keep projects on track. Balancing these tasks involves setting clear priorities, delegating effectively, and using project management tools to ensure deadlines are met without compromising design quality. This dual role provides valuable experience in both design leadership and operational oversight, which can open doors to more senior positions in architecture or project management.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an Architectural Designer Project Manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Architectural Designer Project Manager, you need expertise in architectural design, project management principles, and typically a degree in architecture or a related field, often supported by licensure or certification. Familiarity with design software like AutoCAD, Revit, and project management tools such as Microsoft Project or Primavera is crucial. Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills help you coordinate teams, manage client expectations, and navigate project challenges. These combined abilities ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and meet both functional and aesthetic goals.

What does an Architectural Designer Project Manager do?

An Architectural Designer Project Manager is responsible for both designing building projects and managing their execution from concept to completion. This role combines creative architectural design work with project management duties, such as budgeting, scheduling, coordinating with clients, consultants, and contractors, and ensuring compliance with building codes. They often serve as the main point of contact between the design team and stakeholders, overseeing the entire lifecycle of a construction project to ensure it meets the desired vision, quality standards, and timeline.

Job description

Quanta Power Solutions brings together the industry-leading capabilities and resources of Quanta's operating companies to deliver complete EPC solutions. Our integrated approach spans power generation, battery energy storage, renewables, transmission, substation, and underground infrastructure — from concept to commissioning, we execute complex power infrastructure projects with the speed, certainty, and operational excellence our customers depend on.

At Quanta Power Solutions, we are driven by a culture of safety, integrity, and disciplined execution — and we're building a team that shares that commitment.

Quanta Power Solutions is seeking an Architect Designer IV to support the planning, design, and execution of architectural projects associated with power generation and industrial infrastructure facilities. This role focuses on the design and coordination of functional industrial and utility support facilities that serve power generation and energy infrastructure operations. Projects typically include administration buildings, control buildings, maintenance shops, warehouses, guard houses, and other operational support facilities.

Working in close collaboration with the Principal Architect, this position serves as a senior technical resource within the architectural team and plays a key role in leading the development of detailed architectural designs, Building Information Models (BIM), and construction document packages from concept through project completion. The Senior Architect Designer is responsible for coordinating architectural production efforts, mentoring junior designers, and collaborating with engineers, project managers, and other disciplines to deliver high-quality, coordinated, construction-ready documents.

The ideal candidate possesses extensive experience in industrial architectural design, advanced BIM expertise, exceptional construction document production skills, and the ability to lead architectural production efforts while supporting the overall design vision.

Architectural Design Coordination & Production

  • Collaborate with the Principal Architect in the planning, development, and execution of architectural designs for industrial and commercial facilities supporting power generation, renewable energy, BESS, substations, transmission, and other industrial infrastructure projects.
  • Serve as the senior architectural production lead responsible for coordinating the development of architectural deliverables from schematic design through construction documentation utilizing AutoCad and Revit.
  • Lead the day-to-day activities of the architectural design team and coordinate project assignments to meet project schedules and deliverable milestones.
  • Translate architectural concepts, design criteria, and project requirements into coordinated, accurate, and construction-ready drawing packages.
  • Assist in establishing project-specific drafting standards, detailing approaches, BIM execution strategies, and quality expectations.

Project Coordination

  • Coordinate architectural designs with civil, structural, mechanical, electrical, fire protection, process, and instrumentation disciplines.
  • Participate in project planning, scheduling, interdisciplinary coordination meetings, constructability reviews, and design reviews.
  • Support the Architect in preparing for client meetings helping to prepare architectural presentations, technical exhibits, renderings, and design documentation as required.
  • Help coordinate with pre-engineered metal building manufacturers and specialty building suppliers to integrate manufacturer requirements into the architectural design.
  • Provide technical leadership, mentoring, and daily guidance to architectural designers, BIM specialists, and drafting personnel.
  • Aid in performing detailed quality reviews (QA) of architectural drawings, BIM models, schedules, and construction documents prior to issuance.
  • Provide architectural support during construction by responding to RFIs, reviewing shop drawings and submittals, evaluating field conditions, and assisting with design clarifications.

Education & Experience

  • Associate Degree in Architectural Technology, Architectural Drafting & Design Technology, Drafting and Design Technology, Building Information Modeling (BIM), Engineering Technology, or a related field preferred.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Architecture, Architectural Engineering Technology, or related discipline is a plus.
  • 15+ years of experience in industrial, EPC projects.
  • Experience supporting industrial, utility, power generation, manufacturing, infrastructure, mission-critical, or data center projects preferred.

Technical Expertise

  • Strong knowledge of facility design, construction methods/documentation, safety/accessibility requirements, site/facility layouts, building codes, and permitting processes.
  • Advanced proficiency with Revit, AutoCAD, Bluebeam, and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Experience with BIM coordination processes.
  • Ability to review and coordinate multidiscipline design packages.
