What is an Architect Practice Manager?

An Architect Practice Manager is a professional responsible for overseeing the business operations of an architectural firm. They handle tasks such as staff management, financial planning, project scheduling, and ensuring regulatory compliance. This role acts as a bridge between the creative architectural team and the business side of the practice, ensuring projects are delivered efficiently and profitably. The Architect Practice Manager also develops policies, manages client relationships, and supports the growth and sustainability of the firm.

How does an Architect Practice Manager typically collaborate with design and project teams to ensure project success?

An Architect Practice Manager plays a pivotal role in bridging the gap between business management and design teams. They regularly coordinate with architects, project managers, and support staff to align project goals with practice standards, facilitate resource allocation, and resolve workflow challenges. By fostering open communication and providing strategic guidance, they help teams navigate complex projects more efficiently and support continuous professional development.

The Ideal Candidate
The Solutions Architect is responsible for designing and delivering end-to-end technology solutions aligned to Genesco’s business strategy and enterprise architecture standards within assigned application tower(s). This role partners closely with business stakeholders, product teams, infrastructure, security, and development teams to translate business capabilities into scalable, secure, and integrated technical solutions.

Operating within a hybrid delivery model, the Solutions Architect works closely with Genesco’s outsourcing partner to ensure solution clarity, architectural alignment, and quality execution. This role provides architectural direction, design governance, and implementation oversight to ensure solutions are sustainable, supportable, and aligned to enterprise standards.

How You Will Make an Impact

  • Design comprehensive, end-to-end technology solutions that align with enterprise architecture principles, security policies, operational best practices, and Genesco’s business strategy.
  • Own and drive the architectural vision, strategy, and roadmap for assigned application domains, with a focus on store technology platforms including Point of Sale (POS), Loyalty, and Workforce Management solutions.
  • Translate business requirements and capability roadmaps into scalable solution designs, including integration strategies, data flows, system interactions, and deployment approaches.
  • Lead architecture and design sessions with business stakeholders, product owners, engineering teams, vendors, and cross-functional IT partners.
  • Serve as the primary architectural point of contact for assigned initiatives and provide technical leadership throughout project planning, design, implementation, testing, and deployment.
  • Define and maintain application architecture, integration frameworks, deployment standards, operational support models, and technical best practices.
  • Establish technology standards, integration patterns, design principles, and reference architectures to ensure consistency, scalability, maintainability, and supportability across the technology landscape.
  • Lead architecture and integration strategies across store systems, customer engagement platforms, workforce management solutions, merchandising systems, and enterprise applications.
  • Provide clear architectural documentation, design artifacts, and technical guidance to internal teams and Genesco’s outsourcing partner.
  • Partner closely with the outsourcing partner’s architects and delivery teams to ensure alignment on solution intent, technical requirements, implementation expectations, and quality outcomes.
  • Review and approve high-level and detailed technical designs to ensure alignment with enterprise standards, security requirements, and approved architecture.
  • Ensure adherence to architectural principles, integration patterns, security standards, compliance requirements, and performance expectations across all initiatives.
  • Define and oversee integration strategies leveraging APIs, event-driven architectures, middleware platforms, cloud-native services, and modern integration technologies.
  • Collaborate with infrastructure, security, data, operations, and enterprise architecture teams to ensure seamless integration within the broader technology ecosystem.
  • Identify and mitigate technical risks, architectural gaps, dependencies, and quality concerns; drive appropriate escalation and resolution.
  • Support lifecycle management activities including platform upgrades, modernization efforts, technical debt remediation, and technology transformation initiatives.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies, vendor roadmaps, SaaS platforms, and industry trends to recommend innovative solutions that improve business operations and customer experiences.
  • Support incident resolution and root cause analysis for critical technology issues, driving long-term architectural improvements and operational excellence.
  • Mentor engineering teams and provide architectural guidance to support successful delivery of strategic technology initiatives.
  • Contribute to maintaining architecture documentation, system landscapes, capability models, and domain roadmaps.

Experience and Skills You'll Need to Have

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field, or equivalent work experience.
  • Minimum 6–8 years of progressive IT experience, including solution architecture, systems integration, application architecture, or enterprise technology design.
  • Demonstrated experience designing and implementing integrated solutions across multiple systems, platforms, and business domains.
  • Strong understanding of APIs, middleware, cloud platforms (Azure and/or AWS), data architecture concepts, and enterprise applications.
  • Deep understanding of modern integration patterns including microservices, service-oriented architecture (SOA), event-driven architectures, messaging platforms, and asynchronous integrations.
  • Experience designing cloud-based and hybrid-cloud solutions utilizing Azure, AWS, or similar platforms.
  • Strong understanding of enterprise integration technologies including ESB, iPaaS, API management, and related middleware solutions.
  • Experience operating within outsourced or managed services delivery models and providing architectural governance across third-party delivery teams.
  • Working knowledge of security best practices, identity and access management (IAM), authentication, authorization, compliance requirements, and secure solution design.
  • Strong understanding of SDLC methodologies, Agile frameworks, DevOps practices, and modern software delivery approaches.
  • Demonstrated ability to balance business requirements, technical constraints, scalability needs, operational supportability, and long-term architectural goals.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with experience leading architecture reviews, design workshops, and stakeholder discussions.
  • Advanced documentation and modeling skills including architecture diagrams, technical design documentation, and Visio.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience designing, implementing, or supporting retail technology platforms in multi-location retail environments.
  • Strong knowledge of store systems architecture including POS, loyalty, workforce management, payments, inventory, promotions, customer engagement, and omnichannel retail solutions.
