Under the direction of the Recreation Supervisor, the Archery Instructor will perform supervisory and administrative work in directing all phases of youth archery lessons, including instructing basic archery skills to youth ages 6-16 years. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Utilizing available resources from USA Archery curriculum, develop the entire lesson curriculum, including the creation of practice plans and instruction for both beginner archery lessons. Establish clear objectives for all lessons.
Maintain records and documentation for archery curriculum/programming. Ensure all safety precautions are being followed amongst the participants. Work with the Recreation Supervisor and/or Park Maintenance staff to ensure a safe and clean lesson space.
Responsible for opening and closing the restroom facility. Responsible for set-up and take down of archery range and equipment. Ensure the archery equipment is the proper size for each participant.
Evaluate archery equipment and keep the Recreation Supervisor updated on equipment needs. Provide high quality communication and customer service to participants and parents/guardians, as well as respectfully respond to customer concerns and feedback. Evaluate and monitor program success, participant performance, and provide program feedback to Recreation Supervisor.
Peripheral Duties and Responsibilities Ensure city policies and procedures are followed. Monitor program to ensure a positive and safe environment. Respond to emergencies if they happen at the lesson location.
Administer basic first aid and/or CPR as needed until help arrives. Attend meetings, seminars or other training as needed. Perform other duties as needed or assigned.
Qualifications Work Experience: One (1) year previous instructing, teaching, or coaching experience. Knowledge of archery skill progression; knowledge of archery safety skills and equipment. Will send to training if additional knowledge is needed.
Must be at least 18 years old. Preferred Qualifications: Archery instructor Certification or ability to receive certification before facilitating programs. Experience teaching archery.
High school diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.); CPR and First Aid. Physical Demands and Work Conditions Working outdoors in varying temperatures. Regular lifting and moving equipment up to 50 lbs
Walking and standing for periods of time. Physical activity including demonstrating archery skills, repeated bending, stooping, reaching, twisting, prolonged walking on uneven terrain, and handling/carrying equipment. Cognitive abilities required include problem solving, prioritization of tasks, short- and long-term memory, interpreting and understanding written documents, and general mathematical skills.
