Maintenance Technician - Mankato, MN
Soybean Crush Plant
Job Summary: The Maintenance Technician will be responsible for the maintenance, repair, and optimization of mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems within the soybean crush plant. The ideal candidate will possess strong troubleshooting skills, a solid understanding of plant operations, and the ability to work collaboratively with the production team to ensure plant equipment operates safely and efficiently.
Key Responsibilities:
Maintenance of Equipment and Machinery:
  • Conduct routine inspections, preventative maintenance, and repairs on various plant equipment, including crushers, oil presses, conveyors, mills, pumps, and mixers.
  • Ensure that all equipment complies with safety standards and operational requirements.
  • Replace or repair parts such as bearings, seals, motors, and belts as necessary.
  • Perform alignment and calibration tasks on mechanical and electrical systems.
Troubleshooting and Diagnostics:
  • Respond promptly to machinery breakdowns or malfunctions.
  • Perform diagnostics and troubleshooting on electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic systems to determine causes of failure.
  • Use hand tools, power tools, and diagnostic equipment to resolve issues quickly and efficiently.
Preventative Maintenance:
  • Develop and follow a comprehensive preventive maintenance schedule to reduce downtime and improve equipment lifespan.
  • Keep accurate records of maintenance activities, repairs, and inspections.
Safety and Compliance:
  • Adhere to all safety protocols, plant procedures, and OSHA regulations.
  • Ensure that maintenance work is completed according to the company's safety standards.
  • Promote a culture of safety within the plant and assist in safety audits and inspections.
Collaboration with Production Team:
  • Work closely with the production team to understand equipment performance and identify areas for improvement.
  • Assist in plant shut-downs and start-ups, ensuring equipment is fully operational before production resumes.
  • Participate in team meetings and provide feedback on equipment performance and maintenance needs.
Parts and Inventory Management:
  • Maintain an inventory of necessary tools, parts, and supplies, ordering parts as needed.
  • Coordinate with vendors and suppliers for replacement parts and maintenance equipment.
Equipment Upgrades and Modifications:
  • Assist in installing new equipment or upgrades to improve operational efficiency.
  • Recommend and implement process improvements or modifications to enhance plant performance.
Documentation and Reporting:
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, parts replaced, repairs performed, and operational logs.
  • Report on plant performance and highlight any recurring issues to management.
Education:
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate degree or certification in industrial maintenance, mechanical engineering, or related field preferred.
Experience:
  • 2-5 years of experience in industrial maintenance, preferably in a manufacturing or food processing environment (soybean crush experience a plus).
  • Hands-on experience with mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic systems.
Skills:
  • Strong knowledge of plant equipment and machinery used in soybean crushing (e.g., crushers, screw presses, oil extraction systems).
  • Proficiency in using diagnostic tools and troubleshooting equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and blueprints.
  • Basic computer skills to manage maintenance logs, inventory, and schedules.
Physical Requirements:
  • Ability to lift and carry heavy objects (up to 50 lbs).
  • Ability to work in physically demanding environments, including confined spaces, heights, and noisy areas.
  • Must be willing to work shifts, weekends, and on-call as needed.
Certifications (Preferred):
  • Electrical or mechanical maintenance certifications.
  • OSHA certification or other safety training programs.
Working Conditions:
