Job description

Archer is an aerospace company based in San Jose, California building an all-electric vertical takeoff and landing aircraft with a mission to advance the benefits of sustainable air mobility. We are designing, manufacturing, and operating an all-electric aircraft that can carry four passengers while producing minimal noise.
Our sights are set high and our problems are hard, and we believe that diversity in the workplace is what makes us smarter, drives better insights, and will ultimately lift us all to success. We are dedicated to cultivating an equitable and inclusive environment that embraces our differences, and supports and celebrates all of our team members.
About The Team
As part of the mission at Archer, we're scaling production of our High Voltage Electric Propulsion System - the heart of our eVTOL aircraft, which includes both our Electric Propulsion System (EPS) and High-Voltage Power System (HVPS) assemblies.
We are looking for a high-caliber Manufacturing Maintenance Technician to join our TechOps Powertrain team. In this role, you will transition equipment ownership from our design teams to direct operations. You will be responsible for equipment uptime, preventative maintenance, and continuous improvement for our automated robotic lines.
This is a multidisciplinary electro-mechanical role. If you are an expert troubleshooter who thrives in fast-paced, high-volume automated environments, knows how to read PLCs to diagnose faults, and takes pride in keeping lines running flawlessly, we want to talk to you.
What You'll Do:
  • Own Floor Uptime: Rapidly troubleshoot and maintain complex automation, robotics, and electro-mechanical systems, with a strong focus on high-precision adhesive dispensing systems, laser weld systems, and EOL test systems.
  • Preventative Maintenance: Execute and actively improve preventative maintenance (PM) plans and schedules to maximize equipment reliability.
  • Commissioning & Integration: Partner with external integrators and internal engineering teams to support the installation, commissioning, and qualification (IQ/OQ/PQ) of new manufacturing equipment and tooling.
  • Automation Diagnostics: Troubleshoot complex PLC, robotic, and industrial control systems to identify root causes of equipment failures.
  • Spare Parts Management: Organize, procure, and maintain a robust spare parts inventory to minimize mean time to repair (MTTR).
  • Continuous Improvement: Design and build basic shop/line fixtures and electrical panels to improve safety, quality, or cycle times.
  • Leadership on the Floor: Mentor and share technical knowledge with junior technicians and operators.

What You Need:
  • Experience: 5+ years of hands-on experience as an Equipment Maintenance, Controls, or Automation Technician in a high-volume manufacturing environment (Automotive EV, aerospace, or advanced automation preferred).
  • Education: Associate's Degree in Mechatronics, Industrial Maintenance, Electrical Technology, or equivalent hands-on military/industry experience.
  • Electro-Mechanical Expertise: Deep proficiency in troubleshooting pneumatic systems, hydraulic power, lubrication loops, and precision mechanical assemblies.
  • Controls & Robotics: Experience teaching/programming industrial robots (Fanuc preferred) and diagnosing faults using PLCs (Allen-Bradley preferred).
  • Schematics & Standards: Strong ability to read electrical/pneumatic schematics and mechanical assembly drawings. Familiarity with Electrical Standards (NFPA79, NEC) and Safety Standards (ANSI/RIA 15.06, OSHA).
  • Floor Safety: Unwavering commitment to safety protocols including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), Arc Flash safety, and 5S standards.
  • Drive: A self-motivated, "handle business" attitude with excellent logical-thinking and diagnostic skills.

Bonus Qualifications:
  • Direct experience maintaining automated equipment for High-Voltage Battery module/pack assembly or powertrain production.
  • Familiarity with laser welding, resistance spot welding, or high-voltage battery testing equipment.
  • Active NFPA 70E certification.
  • Basic machine shop experience (milling, turning, grinding) for quick fixture modifications.
  • Ability to travel up to 10% of the time to support integrator buy-offs.

Please note that this job description is intended to provide a general overview of the position and does not include an exhaustive list of responsibilities and qualifications.
