Buena Vista University is seeking an enthusiastic, relationship-focused professional to serve as our Head Archery Coach. This position offers an exciting opportunity to lead and grow a competitive collegiate archery program while contributing to the broader mission of the university through additional duties aligned with the successful candidate's skills, experience, and institutional needs.
The Head Archery Coach is responsible for all aspects of the archery program, including recruitment, coaching, student athlete development, program administration, and compliance. Approximately 60% of the position will be dedicated to Head Archery Coach responsibilities, with the remaining 40% assigned based on the individual's qualifications and the needs of the university. Additional responsibilities may include work in areas such as enrollment, student success, athletics administration, academic support, campus programming, advancement, or other university initiatives.
Primary Responsibilities:
  • Support recruitment and campus visit activities.
  • Recruit and coach archery student athletes.
  • Plan and supervise practices, competitions, and team travel.
  • Monitor academic progress and support student success.
  • Maintain compliance with university and governing-body regulations.
  • Develop marketing, outreach, and fundraising initiatives.
  • Maintain archery equipment and safety standards.
  • Fulfill additional university responsibilities consistent with the candidate's skills, experience, and assigned area of responsibility.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong relationship-building and organizational abilities.
  • Knowledge of collegiate archery and student recruitment.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and other applicable technology systems.
  • Ability to work evenings, weekends, and travel as needed.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Coaching experience, preferably at the collegiate level.
  • USA Archery Level 2 Instructor Certification (or willingness to obtain)
  • Valid driver license required.
  • CPR/First Aid certification or ability to obtain.
