Job description

Department: NUQ Marketing
Salary/Grade: EXS/8
The Northwestern University in Qatar Digital Engagement Specialist is responsible for developing, curating, and managing content across NU-Q's digital platforms to amplify institutional visibility, drive audience engagement, and support strategic storytelling. This role serves as the university's digital voice-crafting timely, creative, and impactful messages that reflect NU-Q's mission, priorities, and personality. The ideal candidate is a creative thinker with a strong editorial sensibility, social media fluency, and a deep understanding of digital audiences.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Social Media Management
  • Plan, publish, and manage content across NU-Q's institutional social media accounts (e.g., Instagram, X/Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook, YouTube, BlueSky).
  • Monitor engagement, trends, and sentiment; respond to inquiries and community feedback in a timely and appropriate manner.
  • Manage editorial, content calendars, campaign schedules, and audience growth strategies.
  • Work closely with the design and editorial teams to develop multimedia and visual-first assets.
Digital Content Creation
  • Research, write, produce and edit digital-first stories, captions, and posts for web and social channels.
  • Develop platform-specific copy that is concise, audience-driven, and aligned with NU-Q's brand voice.
  • Produce and collaborate on the creation of graphics, short videos, reels, stories, and interactive content.
  • Support coverage of live events, university initiatives, and campaigns through digital storytelling and real-time content.
Analytics & Strategy
  • Track KPIs (engagement rates, impressions, click-throughs, etc.) and produce regular performance reports.
  • Recommend data-informed improvements to digital content strategy, timing, and tone.
  • Stay current on social platform updates, algorithms, and trends to optimize content and reach.
Cross-Departmental Support
Coordinate with faculty, staff, and departments to promote academic programs, events, and research
  • Ensure timely updates of digital content on NU-Q's website, social media channels and digital platforms as needed.
  • Support reputation-related communications in collaboration with leadership.
Team Collaboration
  • Contribute to a collaborative and supportive team culture.
  • Participate in regular team meetings and workshops.
  • Support documentation and shared resources to enhance knowledge retention.
Other duties, as assigned by the Assistant Dean and senior leadership
Minimum Qualifications (education, experience, certifications, skills)
  • Bachelor's degree in Digital Media, Communications, Journalism, or a related field.
  • 2-3 years of experience managing social media and digital content, preferably in a university, media, or creative agency setting.
  • Excellent writing and editing skills with a strong grasp of voice, tone, and platform-specific communication.
  • Experience using scheduling and analytics tools (e.g., Sprout Social, Hootsuite, Meta Business Suite, Google Analytics).
  • Proficiency in digital content creation tools (e.g., Canva, Adobe Express, CapCut, or similar).
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment and work collaboratively across teams.
Preferred Qualifications (Education, Experience, Certifications, Skills)
  • Advanced graphic, animation, and video editing skills.
  • Highly skilled with content management systems (e.g., WordPress), social media and display platforms.
  • Understanding of Arabic language and cultural nuances.
  • Experience working in a bilingual or international educational environment.
The target budgeted salary for this position is $70,020 to $90,260 annually. Offers will be based on candidate experience and education, as well as equity within Northwestern University.
