Medical InPerson Interpreter (Chattanooga, TN)

Summary
The InPerson Interpreter (IPI) will facilitate onsite communication for Limited English Proficient (LEP) community members and the practitioners that serve them in a variety of medical settings. We combine proven technology with qualified interpreters, to allow interpreter scheduling through our AMN InPerson Interpreting (IPI) App. This freelance position is flexible and an opportunity to expand your interpreting business, with access to many sessions per day via the AMN IPI App.
As the InPerson Interpreting boutique provider of the United States, our purpose is to provide superior on-site language access by qualified InPerson Interpreters, driven to serve local healthcare facilities nationwide. Driven by “Empowering face-to-face, multilingual communication”, we are seeking professional and diverse, culturally competent, and credentialed medical InPerson Interpreters to join our skillful team to facilitate communication between healthcare providers and their patients, regardless of language or cultural barrier.
InPerson Interpreter Responsibilities
  • Provide effective onsite interpreting service for consumers.
  • Always exhibit professional appearance and behavior, including punctuality and preparedness for shifts.
  • Demonstrate the ability to adapt quickly to new and changing technologies.
  • Pass screening before taking in-person commitments.
  • Adhere to interpreter ethical standards and procedural requirements specific to interpreting context (i.e., hospitals, courts, schools, etc.).
  • Respect for and understanding of our Limited English Proficient (LEP) clients, culture, dialect and beliefs and preferences as it relates to medical procedures.
  • Strong aptitude and passion for customer service and interpreting.
Spoken Language Minimum Qualifications
  • Fluent and have strong verbal communication skills in both the source and target language (i.e., Swahili-to-English or vice-a-versa).
  • Extensive knowledge of code of ethics and standards of practice (IMIA, NBCMI and NCIHC).
  • HIPAA Training for Business Associates certificate (completed within the last year)
  • Proof of language proficiency via a medically based language assessment (LangStat, Reach Diversity, Language Testing Int'l)
  • Accredited Medical Interpreting Training course (i.e.: ALTA, MITS, Bridging the Gap, MiTio, Cross-Cultural training, 40-hour accredited medical courses).
Preferred Qualifications
  • Degree or certifications in interpreting practices.
  • National Medical Interpreter Certification by CCHI or NBCMI.
  • 2 years of medical interpreting experience, within a hospital or clinical setting.
