What is AR accounting?

AR Accounting, or Accounts Receivable Accounting, is the process of tracking and managing money owed to a business by its customers for goods or services provided on credit. This role involves issuing invoices, recording payments, reconciling accounts, and following up on overdue accounts to ensure timely collection. Effective AR Accounting is crucial for maintaining a company's cash flow and financial health. It often requires attention to detail, organizational skills, and familiarity with accounting software.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an accounts receivable accountant, and why are they important?

To excel as an Accounts Receivable Accountant, you need a solid understanding of accounting principles, attention to detail, and a degree in accounting or finance. Familiarity with accounting software such as QuickBooks, SAP, or Oracle, and proficiency in Excel are typically required. Strong organizational skills, problem-solving abilities, and clear communication help manage client relationships and resolve discrepancies efficiently. These competencies ensure accurate financial records, timely collections, and smooth cash flow for the organization.

What are some common challenges faced by professionals in AR accounting, and how can they be effectively managed?

Professionals in AR Accounting often encounter challenges such as managing a high volume of invoices, following up on overdue payments, and resolving discrepancies between customer accounts and company records. Effective communication and strong organizational skills are key to staying on top of these tasks. Utilizing automated accounting software and maintaining clear records can help streamline processes and reduce errors. Additionally, building good relationships with clients and collaborating closely with sales and customer service teams can expedite payment resolutions and improve overall efficiency.

Description

Las Vegas, NV | Start Your Automotive Accounting Career! | Veterans encouraged to apply

Founded in 2014, Swickard Auto Group has grown to 50+ dealerships across five states - consistently ranked by Automotive News as one of the fastest-growing dealer groups in the country and ranked top 5 in North America by Reputation.com.

We're a hospitality company that happens to sell cars. Our Las Vegas corporate headquarters is the operational hub where the financial infrastructure supporting 50+ dealerships gets built, maintained, and scaled. When you're managing receivables across that many locations from one team, the work is real, the pace is fast, and the impact is immediate.

THE ROLE

At Swickard, accounts receivable spans vehicle sales, manufacturer warranty claims, lender funding (including floorplan and retail funding), and service transactions across dozens of locations - all managed from one centralized team. The Accounts Receivable Specialist owns the accuracy and aging of that receivables book: reconciling open balances, chasing down outstanding amounts, and making sure the numbers leadership sees reflect reality.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

Reconcile open receivables and proactively identify and resolve discrepancies

Maintain AR aging reports and deliver clear, actionable reporting on receivable trends and collection activity

Post customer payments, warranty receivables, and lender funding (including floorplan and retail funding) accurately across dealership locations

Process and track manufacturer warranty claims and floorplan funding with proper documentation

Support month-end close by ensuring receivable records are accurate, reconciled, and properly reflected across all entities

Partner with dealership sales and service teams to resolve billing questions and ensure accurate transaction processing

WHAT YOU BRING

Required

1+ year of accounting experience

Ability to analyze receivable data, identify trends and discrepancies, and communicate findings clearly to accounting leadership

Strong Excel skills - pivot tables, VLOOKUP, and financial data analysis

Solid understanding of GAAP, account reconciliations, and month-end close processes

Detail-oriented and self-directed with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment

Strong communication and problem-solving skills with the ability to collaborate across departments

Preferred

3+ years of accounting experience

Experience with Reynolds & Reynolds or similar dealership management and accounting platforms

BENEFITS & PERKS

Medical, dental, and vision insurance

401(k)

Paid time off and holidays

Employee vehicle purchase and service discounts

Pet insurance

Mental health program and benefits

Clear career path - AR Specialist to Senior AR, Accounting Manager, or Controller - in a company that promotes from within
