Build Your Career While Earning College CreditLaunch your career with Intermountain Electronics through our 2026 Fall Pre-Apprenticeship Program, offered in partnership with Utah State University Eastern (USU Eastern).
This unique program combines the best aspects of an internship and an apprenticeship, allowing participants to gain hands-on industry experience while earning college credit-all with no prior experience required.Â
Participants will choose one of two career paths:
- Electrical TechniciansÂ
- Fabricators (Welding & Fabrication)Â
Whether you're looking to explore a skilled trade or begin a long-term career, this program provides real-world experience, professional mentorship, and a direct pathway into one of Utah's fastest-growing industries.
Job DescriptionAs a Pre-Apprentice, you will work alongside experienced professionals while developing the foundational skills needed for a successful career in manufacturing and skilled trades.
Depending on your selected career path, you will receive hands-on training in either Electrical or Fabrication while learning industry safety standards, quality expectations, manufacturing processes, and professional workplace skills.
Responsibilities include:
- Learn from experienced mentors in a real manufacturing environment.Â
- Perform entry-level production and fabrication or electrical assembly tasks.Â
- Safely operate tools, equipment, and machinery after proper training.Â
- Follow company safety procedures and quality standards.Â
- Participate in on-the-job training and classroom instruction.Â
- Develop technical, problem-solving, and teamwork skills.Â
- Maintain professionalism, attendance, and a positive attitude throughout the program.Â
- Complete assigned projects and training objectives.Â
- Paid Pre-Apprenticeship $14-$17 per hour
- Earn 8 applicable college credits through USU EasternÂ
- On-the-job training with experienced mentorsÂ
- Campus Housing and meal plan provided through the programÂ
- Build valuable skills in an in-demand tradeÂ
- Opportunity to pursue long-term employment with Intermountain Electronics after successful completionÂ

- 90-Day Program / 1 Semester
Monday - Friday: 6:00 AM - 3:30 PM (every other Friday off)

Requirements
Successful candidates will demonstrate a strong work ethic, a willingness to learn, and an interest in pursuing a career in the skilled trades. No prior electrical or fabrication experience is required.
Minimum Qualifications
- Must be at least 18 years of age by the start of the program. (Exceptions made for those 16+ if they've graduated high school early)
- Must have graduated from high school or possess a GED, or be on track to graduate prior to the program start.Â
- Must be accepted into the USU Eastern Pre-Apprenticeship Program and complete any required enrollment through USU Eastern.Â
- Must successfully complete Intermountain Electronics' pre-employment hiring process, including a background check and drug screen.Â
- Ability to read and understand basic instructions.Â
- Ability to communicate effectively and work well in a team environment.Â
- Demonstrate professionalism, reliability, and regular attendance.Â
- Demonstrate a positive attitude, willingness to learn, and the ability to accept coaching and constructive feedback.Â
- Ability to safely perform physical work, including standing for extended periods, lifting materials, bending, climbing stairs, and working in a manufacturing environment.Â
- Commitment to following all Intermountain Electronics safety policies and procedures.Â
