Job description

Position Purpose

This position is working Metal Trades position assuring the continuity and quality of all jobs assigned per responsibilities noted below 

Position Responsibilities       

  • Hydrostatic testing pressure vessels, cutting, measuring, sandblasting, painting
  • Assist with building maintenance (sweeping, shop clean up, organizing shop, etc.)
  • Grinding pipe and fittings
  • Loading/unloading trucks and trailers with overhead cranes and or forklifts.
  • Tow motor (forklift) operation, material handling
  • Deliveries to customer sites and supplier sites as needed with Bassett Mechanical vehicles
  • Maintain a safe and Lean working environment.
  • Other duties as assigned

NOTE: Per union guidelines, Metal Trades will only be able to weld on non-code pipe supports and structural items if needed. Metal Trades will not be able to weld on any pipe spools or pressure vessels. All welders must pass a weld test for each welding process to ASME standards and be indentured as a Local 400 Apprentice prior to welding on code pipe and or vessels. 

 Summary of Skills, Knowledge and Abilities

  • High School diploma (required for apprenticeship)
  • No experience needed!
  • Strong mechanical aptitude
  • Mathematical competency, measure,  and strong reading comprehension skills
  • Current, valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
  • Strong work ethic and attendance
  • Ability to communicate effectively with customers and co-workers
  • Must be able to stay on task and be self-motivated
  • Physical ability to climb, crawl, lift heavy items and work inside confined spaces, hot/cold shop conditions, heights, etc. (any necessary safety training will be provided prior to entering these environments and operating equipment)
  • Interest in earning a Local 400 Fabricator Apprenticeship
