Job description

The Apprentice program is designed to develop skilled participants through a structured combination of on-the-job training and related classroom instruction. Apprentices will gain hands-on experience in machining and manufacturing processes while learning industry standards, safety practices, and technical competencies. This role provides a pathway to a long-term career with opportunities for growth and advancement.

MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Under general direction, responsible for the setup, calibration, and operation of machines used in production processes.
  • Follows established procedures for operating various conventional and/or CNC (computerized numerical control) manufacturing equipment.
  • Selects and measures raw materials and parts to specifications to prepare for production processing.
  • Resolves issues related to the organization's production, machinery, processing and/or packaging operations.
  • Inspects machining operations and finished product against specified tolerances using precision measuring tools.
  • Determines and corrects minor machine malfunctions and performs simple routine maintenance and cleaning.
  • Safety and housekeeping (5S) requirements.

REQUIRED COMPETENCIES

  • Must be able to read, write and speak English fluently and have strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Able to make note of, and follow through with, verbal instructions.
  • Must demonstrate good eye-hand coordination and agility.
  • Being self-directed and working in team environments is expected.
  • Positions may be requested to work weekend or off shift scheduling to meet business needs.
  • Strong attention to detail, punctuality, and dependability.
  • Proficiency in basic mathematical skills to include addition, subtraction, multiplication and fractions.
  • Proficiency with computers and ability to learn new systems quickly.
  • Ability to be self-directed when needed, but comfortable taking direction and asking questions.
  • Positive attitude and a proactive approach to contributing to our collective success.

EXPERIENCE

  • Must be a member of Apprentice Alamance with successful completion of the pre-apprentice program and curriculum.

EDUCATION

  • Minimum of a High School Diploma or GED in process (with Apprentice program) or completed.

In addition, the employee may be assigned other duties within the area of their competence.
