Job description

Position Description: Manages technical and back of house operations for the Barton Fine Arts Auditorium including technical direction of mainstage productions, setting, light, and audio design. Position Responsibilities: 35.00% - Coordinate with the Theatre and Music departments to design, construct, and implement sets, lighting, and sound for mainstage productions and concerts. 15.00% - Oversee student employees and community volunteers within the auditorium. 20.00% - Act as designated technical staff member in auditorium, collaborating with IT and facilities and assist in a technical capacity with all campus and community activities held in the auditorium 5.00% - Act as security and safety coordinator to ensure safe and secure working conditions in theatre space 10.00% - Maintain inventory control program for theatre equipment and property, including light and sound equipment, stage shop, and backstage spaces. 10.00% - Teach up to 6 credit hours per year or comparable duties such as coordinate and manage calendar of events for the Fine Arts Auditorium including institutional and community events. 5.00% - Performs other duties as needed or assigned. Expectations: Remain current on latest technical theatre innovations and technology and technical equipment of the Fine Arts Auditorium. Manage multiple projects and deadlines while maintaining an accurate calendar of events Work non-traditional hours including nights and weekends as needed. Work with student employees, faculty, staff, community members, and various theatre professionals Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Experience - Six months to two years of similar or related experience. Education - (1) A two year college degree or (2) Completion of a specialized course of study at a business or trade school or (3) Completion of a specialized and extensive in-house training or apprenticeship program. Interpersonal Skills - Courtesy, tact, and diplomacy are essential elements of the job. Work involves much personal contact with others inside and/or outside the college for purposes of giving or obtaining information, building relationships, or soliciting cooperation. Other Skills - Possess leadership qualities and the ability to motivate and inspire.Strong communication and interpersonal skillsComputer literacy including MS Applications and technical theatre applicationsStrong creative and innovated design ability at the professional, semi-professional, or collegiate level Physical Requirements: The work requires considerable physical exertion such as infrequent climbing of ladders, frequent lifting of heavy objects over 50 pounds with repetitive bending, crouching or stooping. Job requires above-average agility and dexterity. Occasional exposure to objectionable conditions or variations such as those found in variable weather conditions or light industrial settings.Regular exposure to unfavorable environments such as: weather, body fluids, toxic laboratory, industrial chemicals, confined locations, dirty and noisy locations. Wages/Other: The salaried rate for this position is $42,808.82 to $47,654.78. Job Advertisement: Barton Community College is seeking applications for a creative and enthusiastic Technical Theatre Director to join our growing Fine & Performing Arts Department. This position will manage technical and back of house operations for the Barton Fine Arts Auditorium including technical direction of mainstage productions as well as other college and community events. This role facilitates set construction, lighting, and audio design while ensuring all safety procedures and protocols are followed during the event production process. Qualified candidates should have six months to two years of similar experience and hold a two-year degree, or completion of specialized courses in technical theatre and/or event management. Qualified candidates will also possess strong communication and leadership skills to be able to coordinate with Barton’s Theatre, Dance, and Music departments, as well as other college and community partners. This is a full-time position and will work non-traditional hours including nights and weekends as needed.
