Position Summary

The Apprentice Plumber provides emergency and maintenance plumbing services to residential customers across Illinois. The Apprentice Plumber delivers high-quality repairs and installations while prioritizing customer safety, compliance, company standards, professionalism, and customer service.

This role offers consistent plumbing work (no commercial jobs), commission opportunities on equipment sales, and strong support for career growth—including fast sponsorship for apprentices, company-paid continuing education, and coverage of licensing exam/testing costs.

While OHS headquarters is located in Naperville, this is a field-based position with regular travel to customer homes in the greater Chicagoland (Central) using a company-provided vehicle that you take home.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Continuously provide the highest levels of customer service while representing the company with professionalism and integrity
  • Diagnose, test for, and document gas leaks in existing or new installations
  • Perform emergency repairs on leaking, loose, clogged, or damaged plumbing components
  • Complete all types of plumbing repairs, including:
    • Minor steam line repairs and re-routing
    • Natural gas pipe repairs and re-routing
    • Storm and sewage line maintenance, repairs, and preventative maintenance
  • Perform plumbing repairs and upgrades including:
    • Sinks, faucets, radiator valves, and traps
    • Toilets, bathtubs, drain lines, and water supply lines
    • Natural gas line risers
  • Install and maintain appliances such as:
    • Water heaters
    • Pumps, sump pumps, sewage pumps, and ejectors
  • Lay out, install, repair, or maintain pipelines for water, gas, or compressed air
  • Requisition materials and supplies using approved in-house procedures
  • Cycle count inventory
  • Maintain expected productivity, quality, and safety metrics
  • Maintain company vehicle by coordinating repairs and preventative maintenance with the Fleet Department
  • Operate with a strong focus on company and customer safety, regulatory compliance, and quality workmanship

Experience and Qualifications of the Role:

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience working under a plumbing license
  • Preferred experience diagnosing and repairing residential plumbing issues
  • Commitment to continuing education to maintain and advance plumbing licensure


Computer Skills Needed to Perform the Job 

  • Preferred ability to operate and navigate an iPad or similar mobile device for documentation and reporting

Education

  • High school diploma or GED or equivalent work experience required

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

  • Hold a current Plumbing Apprentice License with the Illinois Department of Public Health (IDPH)
  • Valid driver's license
