POSITION SUMMARY:
Work Schedule: Monday- Friday, 8am- 4:30pm
Essential Functions. Other Duties May Be Assigned.
Engineering Collaboration, Code Support, Project Management, and Documentation
  • Reads, interprets, and reviews single-line diagrams, three-line diagrams, schematics, wiring and interconnection diagrams, panel layouts, bills of material, and general arrangement drawings.
  • Reviews released drawing packages ahead of build kickoff to identify constructability issues, missing details, and errors.
  • Redlines drawings accurately and legibly during the build,and submits changes for as-built incorporation so that customer documentation matches the delivered equipment.
  • Verifies component selection, spacings, wire sizing, short-circuit current ratings, and labeling against the applicable listing requirements and flags any deviation before it is built in.
  • Responsible for reviewing and completing bills of materials for release to purchasing.
  • Partners with electrical engineers, designers, and project managers during design reviews to advise on manufacturability, component access, serviceability, and standard practice.
  • Coordinates with supply chain to improve job costs, source alternative parts, and encourage greater supply chain resiliency to support on-time delivery.
  • Provides labor-hour input, sequencing input, and material takeoff support for estimating and production planning.
  • Communicates build status, technical risk, and schedule impacts clearly and proactively to floor supervisors, project management, and cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Serves as the facility's primary interpreter of the National Electrical Code (NFPA 70) and applies it correctly to manufactured assemblies and in-plant installations.
  • Ensures builds conform to applicable UL standards - including UL 508A (industrial control panels), UL 891 (switchboards), UL 1558 (metal-clad switchgear), and UL 845 (motor control centers.
  • Advises floor teams on Installation of major electrical components including circuit breakers, switches, disconnects, current and potential transformers, protective relays, PLCs, HMIs, VFDs, transformers, surge arrestors, and grounding systems.
  • Establishes and verifies equipment grounding and bonding systems, including ground bus, ground grid connections, and neutral grounding resistors.
  • Identifies and resolves build obstacles - component fit-up conflicts, missing hardware, drawing discrepancies, and material shortages - escalating to Engineering, Supply Chain, or Project Management to protect schedule.
  • Assists in executing functional and operational testing of control schemes, interlocks, protective relay logic, breaker operation, transfer schemes, and alarm circuits.
  • Diagnoses and troubleshoots electrical and control faults using drawings, meters, test sets, and diagnostic software, isolating root cause rather than treating symptoms.

Workforce Development, Mentoring, and Continuous Improvement
  • Provides day-to-day technical direction and craft mentorship to journeymen, apprentices, and electrical assemblers.
  • Serves as a mentor and evaluator within IE's registered apprenticeship program, supervising on-the-job training hours and verifying competency progression.
  • Delivers hands-on and classroom-style training on code application, wiring standards, test procedures, safe work practices, and product-specific build methods.
  • Provides objective, documented input to supervision on craft skill assessment, readiness for advancement, and development needs of assigned personnel.
  • Identifies and implements continuous improvement opportunities in build sequence, tooling, fixturing, kitting, layout, and standard work to reduce hours and defects.
  • In collaboration with the Continuous Improvement team, helps develop and maintain written work instructions, wiring standards, torque specifications, checklists, and shop-standard details for repeatable product families.
  • Maintains current technical knowledge through code update training, manufacturer product training, and required continuing education, and shares that knowledge with the team

Requirements
Qualifications:

Education/Experience:
Active Master Electrician Certification in the State of Colorado; plus 7 years or more of progressive electrical experience in manufacturing or industrial environment.
Language Ability:
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret electrical prints, regulations, and specifications. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedures. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and employees.
Math Ability:
Ability to compute electrical calculations - ohms, resistance, voltage, fusing capacity, etc. Must be able to accurately follow schematics and electrical drawings and wire match such. Ability to understand and know company operation costs and production costs and production overrun costs. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations
Reasoning Ability:
Ability to solve practical problems such as electrical troubleshooting, and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Computer Skills:
To perform this job successfully an individual should have strong PC skills and be proficient in MS Office Suite. Experience with autocad a plus.
Certificates and Licenses:
Must possess a valid driver's license.
Current Master Electrician Certification in the state of Colorado
