JOB SUMMARY

The Asphalt Plant Laborer is a vital member of the plant crew, responsible for performing a wide range of manual and equipment-based tasks that support the production of high-quality hot mix asphalt. This role is foundational to the plant’s daily operations, focusing on maintaining a safe, clean, and efficient workspace. Beyond manual labor, the Laborer is expected to assist with preventative maintenance, manage inventory through material handling, and eventually cross-train on various mobile equipment to support the overall production goals of the facility.

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist in the preventative maintenance of plant components, including greasing bearings, replacing conveyor idlers, and inspecting drive belts and pulleys.
  • Maintain high standards of cleanliness around the plant by shoveling spilled material, sweeping walkways, and ensuring the grounds are free of debris to prevent safety hazards.
  • Under supervision, operate mobile equipment such as skid steers, front-end loaders, or water trucks to manage stockpiles or clean the yard.
  • Utilize various hand and power tools—including shovels, rakes, pneumatic hammers, sledgehammers, and wrenches—to complete repairs or operational tasks.
  • Monitor and manage raw material stockpiles to ensure a continuous flow into the plant.
  • Support paving crews by preparing surfaces, raking asphalt material to grade, and assisting in the distribution of hot/cold mix for patching.
  • Coordinate the backing of trucks and the dumping of material into pavers or silos, ensuring precise placement to maximize production speed.
  • strictly follow all OSHA, TCEQ regulations and Martin Marietta’s internal safety protocols to ensure a 'zero-harm' environment.
  • Conduct daily pre-shift and post-shift inspections of equipment and the work area, reporting any mechanical failures or safety concerns to the Foreman immediately.
  • Maintain and wear all required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including steel-toed boots, hard hats, high-visibility vests, and hearing protection.
