Job Summary:
The Sr. Piping Designer will be responsible for leading a drafting team whose responsibility will be preparing layouts and designs of complex offshore/onshore piping systems utilizing Company 2D and 3D modeling software. They may occasionally be called upon to function as a Project Lead, and or Coordinator on Project(s).
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
• Prepare man-hour estimates, budgets and schedules for their respective discipline;
• Manage project work flow to ensure project completion and adherence to project schedules;
• Lead, supervise and mentor the drafters assigned to their project;
• Coordinate with client and engineering on determining and addressing project priorities;
• Principal designer involved in resolving piping design issues;
• Prepare layouts and overall project execution plans for assigned projects from Scope of Work (SOW) and/or verbal instructions with little or no guidance;
• Ensure that all drawings adhere to client, and/or company drafting standards;
• Ensure that all drawings adhere to client, company and/or industry design standards;
• Design and draft clean effective piping systems that adhere to safety and maintenance specifications;
• Periodically serve as Piping Checker;
• QA/QC project design lead;
• Responsible for keeping the Project Engineer and Project Manager updated on any and all concerns relating to their respective assignments;
• Track and report progress for assigned project drawings;
• Create weight estimates;
• Create material estimates;
• Perform site and vendor visits as required;
• Other various project responsibilities as required;
• Work and communicate with other discipline leads on projects.
Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities):
• Requires a minimum of ten (10) years of piping layout and design experience relating to the Upstream / Downstream Oil & Gas market;
• Associate Degree in Drafting and Design or equivalent preferred;
• Requires past experience in a lead role supervising drafters and designers;
• Requires knowledge and the ability to work with MS Office Suite of products (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Access);
• Must be proficient in AutoCAD;
• Must have advanced knowledge of piping 2D and 3D software. (AutoDesk Plant 3D, PDMS, AVEDA E3D, Navisworks);
• Must have knowledge of how to design in E3D using laser scan data;
• Must have advanced working knowledge of P&ID's, General Arrangements, Piping Plans Sections and Details, Pipe Supports and Isometrics;
• Must have the ability to layout process equipment with nozzle locations and interconnecting piping;
• Must have field experience in gathering information for retrofit purposes;
• Must have strong working knowledge of ASME, ANSI, API RP 14C, API RP 14E, API Spec 6A, NFPA and OSHA standards;
• Must have working knowledge with AWS Welding Symbols and AISC Manual.

In addition, the candidate's location must be easily identifiable either on submittal documents or in the candidate's registration in our ATS.
Working Conditions:
  • Work is primarily conducted in an office environment (Private or Semi-Private office) but may require occasional travel to off-site work locations;
  • Field duties may require outdoor work in a plant or offshore platform atmosphere;
  • Ability to work in an offshore environment is required (HUET Training required);
  • Must be able to work effectively in a team environment requiring interaction with other team members, as well as supervisors and client personnel;
  • Working offshore or in plant and/or shop areas around production machinery with extreme noise levels;
  • Must be able to wear safety equipment as required by the safety department for personal protection;
  • May be at more than one job site in a day and must be able to tolerate climate changes;
  • May be required to travel out of town on a periodic basis.
