As a Substation Apprentice, you will begin building your career in substation construction by supporting field crews and learning foundational installation practices. Working under the direction of experienced Foremen and Supervisors, you will develop core technical skills, gain exposure to construction drawings, and build knowledge of substation materials and methods. This role is designed for individuals who are eager to learn, grow, and contribute to safe and efficient project execution.

What You'll Do Here:

  • Assist with daily substation construction activities under the direction of experienced crew members
  • Begin interpreting Issued for Construction (IFC) drawings and support redlining as directed
  • Support installation activities across various substation scopes
  • Learn proper use of tools, materials, and consumables in a construction environment
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area
  • Follow all safety procedures and actively contribute to Aecon's safety culture
  • Proactively ask questions and seek guidance to build technical knowledge and skills

What You Bring to the Team:

  • Minimum of 1 year of substation field experience and a strong interest in developing a long-term career in substation construction.
  • Developing exposure to:
    • Conduit installation and routing
    • Ground grid installation and basic grounding practices
    • Precast trench installation and layout
    • Cable tray installation
    • Structural steel installation support
    • Apparatus installation assistance
    • Bus work installation support
    • Low-voltage cable installation
  • Building a foundational understanding of substation materials, consumables, and tools, and are eager to expand your knowledge in the field.
  • Demonstrate a strong work ethic, willingness to learn, and the initiative to ask questions and improve your skills.
  • Positive attitude, strong communication skills, and a safety-first mindset.ย
