What is an apprentice operator?

Apprentice Operators are entry-level workers who are learning to operate machinery or equipment under the supervision of experienced operators. They typically participate in a structured training program that combines on-the-job experience with classroom instruction. The goal is to develop the technical skills and knowledge needed to perform the operator role independently. Apprentice Operators are common in industries such as manufacturing, utilities, and construction, where hands-on training is essential. Their responsibilities may include monitoring equipment, assisting with maintenance, and following safety procedures.

What can I expect during my first few months as an apprentice operator?

During your initial months as an Apprentice Operator, you'll primarily focus on learning operational procedures, safety protocols, and equipment handling under the guidance of experienced operators. You'll rotate through different stations, participate in hands-on training, and gradually take on more responsibility as you demonstrate competence. Close supervision and feedback are typical, as safety and accuracy are paramount in this role. Expect to work in a team-oriented environment where collaboration and clear communication are essential for smooth operations and troubleshooting.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as an apprentice operator, and why are they important?

To thrive as an Apprentice Operator, you generally need a high school diploma or equivalent, basic mechanical aptitude, and a willingness to learn operational procedures. Familiarity with industrial equipment, safety protocols, and sometimes entry-level certifications such as OSHA training are commonly required. Strong attention to detail, teamwork, and effective communication help individuals excel in this hands-on environment. These skills and qualities ensure safe, efficient, and accurate operation of machinery, which is critical to maintaining production standards and workplace safety.

Job description

Hot Tub Service Technician / Paid Apprentice

Tucson Hot Tubs – Tucson, AZ
Full-Time | 35–40 Hours per Week

WE’LL TRAIN THE RIGHT PERSON.

Tucson Hot Tubs is growing, and we’re looking for hard-working, mechanically inclined people to join our service team.

No hot tub experience? That’s OK.

If you know how to use tools, can troubleshoot problems, show up on time, and aren’t afraid to work with your hands, we can teach you the hot tub industry.

Already have experience in HVAC, plumbing, electrical, appliance repair, pool service, automotive repair, maintenance, or field service? We especially want to talk to you.

This is not a desk job. You’ll work with your hands, solve real problems, work outdoors, interact with customers, and learn a skilled trade.

We’re looking for someone who wants a career—not just another paycheck.

NO EXPERIENCE? START AS AN APPRENTICE.

You’ll train alongside an experienced technician while learning:

  • Electrical and mechanical troubleshooting
  • Pumps, motors, heaters, and control systems
  • Plumbing and leak repair
  • Water chemistry
  • Hot tub and swim spa maintenance
  • Deliveries and installations
  • Proper use of tools and diagnostic equipment
  • How to diagnose problems and complete repairs correctly

You’ll work toward earning your Spa (Hot Tub) Technical Specialty Certification through written, verbal, and hands-on practical testing.

GET CERTIFIED. GET A RAISE. GET YOUR OWN TRUCK.

After successfully completing training and certification, you’ll be eligible for:

  • Hourly pay increase
  • Promotion to Service Technician
  • Company service truck for workday use
  • Company-provided tools and equipment
  • More independence and responsibility in the field
  • Continued opportunities to advance

ALREADY EXPERIENCED? LET’S TALK.

Experienced technicians may move directly into our Service Technician track.

You’ll be responsible for:

  • Running service calls
  • Diagnosing and repairing hot tubs and swim spas
  • Troubleshooting pumps, heaters, motors, control systems, electrical components, and plumbing
  • Finding leaks and equipment failures
  • Testing and balancing water chemistry
  • Performing maintenance and inspections
  • Explaining repairs clearly to customers
  • Completing accurate service documentation
  • Maintaining your service truck, tools, parts, and inventory

Experience in spa/pool service, HVAC, plumbing, electrical, appliance repair, automotive repair, maintenance, or another mechanical trade is highly preferred.

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

We can teach you hot tubs.

We can’t teach you to care about doing a good job.

You need to be:

  • Dependable and on time
  • Mechanically inclined
  • Comfortable using tools
  • Able to troubleshoot and think through problems
  • Willing to learn
  • Able to follow instructions
  • Detail-oriented
  • Professional around customers
  • Able to work independently once trained
  • Comfortable working outdoors in Arizona weather
  • Able to lift 50+ lbs
  • In possession of a valid Arizona Driver’s License

WHAT WE PROVIDE

  • Full-time employment – approximately 35–40 hours per week
  • Paid hands-on training
  • Apprentice-to-Technician career path
  • Pay based on experience
  • Raise after successful certification
  • Company truck for qualified technicians
  • Company tools and equipment
  • Company uniforms
  • Ongoing training
  • Advancement opportunities
  • A skilled trade you can build a career around
  • 4 day work weeks Tuesday- Friday

THIS JOB ISN’T FOR EVERYONE.

You’ll get dirty. You’ll work outside. You’ll troubleshoot problems that don’t always have an obvious answer.

But if you like fixing things, working with your hands, learning how equipment works, and seeing the results of your work, you may be exactly who we’re looking for.

If you’re dependable, mechanically inclined, and ready to learn a skilled trade, apply today.
