SUMMARY:

"Class A" Tool Maker; holds tolerances required for high precision, high quality tools +/-0.0001 with no technical supervision. Exceptional measurement skill and technique, tool design knowledge, oversees mold fabrication projects, and has remarkable efficient machinist skills (CNC, EDM, grinding, wire, hand work)

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Operations on tool room machines, using all necessary machine attachments to make replacement parts, tools, and dies.
  • Planning of tool making jobs and establishing the best machining method to deliver high quality, high precisions tools.
  • Plan work to be performed and determine methods and sequence of operations working from tool design drawings or our own designs.
  • Operates various types of machine shop equipment (manual/CNC) to complete assignment as required. Select cutting tools, holding fixtures, machine feeds and speeds, collects and lubricants and gear ratios for all kinds of metals and pieces to be worked.
  • Advanced programming of CNC equipment such as Vertical Milling Centers, Wire EDM's, Sinker EDM's utilizing CADCAM systems.
  • Works from and interprets blueprints and 3D models to create or modify, molds, dies, tools and fixtures.
  • Conduct experiments to validate machine quality and consistency.
  • Provides direction, training and coaching for lower-level associates.
  • Adept at interpreting complex engineering drawings, programming and operating coordinate measuring machines, and producing high-tolerance components using EDM sinker technology.
  • Consistently challenge oneself to improve on process and efficiency.
  • Establish a legacy of quality and workmanship.

Job Requirements:

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

AA / Technical degree, technical apprenticeship, or 10+ years' experience in a technical tool making role.

  • Minimum 10 years' experience programming CNC Sinker EDM controllers and post processors, working knowledge of Mastercam CAM software required.
  • Minimum 10 years' experience setting up and operating CNC sinker EDM machines to hold tolerances of +/-0.0001 in a medical environment for mold, dies, and fixtures.
  • Minimum 10 years' experience with computer-Aided Engineering / Design / Drafting, proficiency with SolidWorks required.
  • Fundamental understanding GD&T tolerances and dimensions for high precision medical devices. Detail-oriented and highly skilled EDM Sinker Operator with over 10 years of experience in precision machining, quality control, and manufacturing process optimization.
  • Familiar with Lean techniques to streamline and improve machine shop job flow.
  • CMM Inspector is a plus Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM) Programming & Operation (PC-DMIS, Zeiss Calypso) CMM Inspector is a plus
  • Must possess excellent technical judgment and able to set logical action plans for tool trouble shooting and risk mitigation.

LANUGUAGE SKILLS:

  • Excellent communications skills, both written and oral are required.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, and operating procedures. Must have the ability to write routine reports and correspondence. The ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization is required.

COMPUTER SKILLS:

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have complete knowledge and practical use of Microsoft office applications.

  • Competent with use of personal computers and related software is desirable, knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and Project is required.
  • Must possess excellent Communication (Technical, Oral, Written).
  • Must possess excellent technical judgment and able to set logical action plan and technical problem resolution.

Math Ability:

  • Ability to add, subtracts, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to calculate rates, ration and percent to draw and interpret graphs. Ability to discern trends, and analyze operational and financial reports.

Reasoning Ability:

  • Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.
