Union Operating Engineer Apprentice - JLL Local 68

What this job involves:

As an Operating Engineer at JLL, you'll be a vital member of our facilities team, ensuring the reliable operation and maintenance of central plant equipment that keeps our clients' buildings running smoothly. This role centers on technical excellence and responsive service, where you'll operate and maintain critical building systems while fostering positive relationships with tenants, contractors, and your fellow team members. What your day-to-day will look like:

Operate and perform general maintenance on central plant equipment, monitoring systems for potential or existing problems and developing solutions for review by the Chief Engineer or Assistant Chief Engineer

Respond promptly and courteously to tenant requests and service needs, maintaining positive tenant relations through professional and timely communication

Conduct all maintenance activities in accordance with established safety procedures and guidelines, ensuring a safe work environment for yourself and others

Monitor building systems continuously to identify issues before they escalate, presenting formulated solutions to engineering leadership for appropriate action

Assist in training personnel on proper operation and maintenance procedures, sharing your knowledge and expertise with team members

Review and remain prepared to execute all current emergency procedures as established by JLL and the assigned property

Maintain professional and ethical relationships with contractors, coordinating with external vendors as needed to support building operations

Required qualifications:

High School or GED

Enrolled in the Local 68 Apprenticeship Program

Must be a member of Local 68 union or willing to join upon hire

Strong customer service skills with ability to respond to tenant needs promptly and professionally

Solid communication skills, both written and verbal, with ability to interact effectively across all levels

Demonstrated computer skills with working experience in Microsoft Office applications

Detail and process oriented approach to work with strong organizational abilities

Ability to multi-task and prioritize competing demands in a fast-paced environment

Preferred qualifications:

Technical certification or formal training in HVAC, building operations, or mechanical systems

Experience working in commercial office buildings or similar facilities

Familiarity with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS)

Proven ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team environment

Experience building cooperative relationships with field teams and cross-functional colleagues

Schedule: Saturday - Wednesday, 2:00 PM to 10:00 PM (Thursday & Friday OFF)

Location: Jersey City, NJ

This position does not provide visa sponsorship. Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.

Estimated compensation for this position:

52,000.00 - 65,600.00 USD per year

This range is an estimate and actual compensation may differ. Final compensation packages are determined by various considerations including but not limited to candidate qualifications, location, market conditions, and internal considerations.
