Job description

Job Summary:
South Arkansas College is seeking applications for a part-time, adjunct instructor in various disciplines (including, but not limited to, English, mathematics, science, history, humanities, social sciences, business). This position is responsible for instructing students in the classroom and/or lab setting within various department as a part of the Arts & Sciences division. The applicant should be professional, articulate, and collaborative as well as having excellent interpersonal skills. This position is governed by state and federal laws and institution policy.
Salary: This position is paid per credit hour, as needed.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
The selected applicant will supervise students in the classroom and/or lab setting in both in-person and online course sections and work to provide a safe and engaging learning environment.
Duties and Responsibilities:
โ€ข Teach courses within the Arts & Sciences Division, based on college need. This includes preparation for class meetings, communicating with students and fellow instructors, assessing student learning, etc.
โ€ข Collaborate with division leadership and department faculty to provide high-quality student engagement and learning in the classroom setting, either in-person or online.
โ€ข Evaluate student performance based on course and program standards and requirements.
Participate in division activities or other duties as assigned.
Skills and Abilities:
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • The ability to use professional technology to conduct college-related business (ex. Microsoft Office Suite).
  • Ability to teach in both in-person and online modalities using the College LMS (Blackboard Ultra).

Required Education and Experience:
The applicant must hold a Master's degree in the field/course being taught or have completed a minimum of 18 graduate hours in these or a closely related field.
Preferred Education and Experience:
A graduate degree in the field of study and experience as a classroom instructor, preferably at the college-level, are preferred.
Physical Requirements:
Those of a typical classroom teacher, such as physical mobility to conduct classroom instruction and office work. Prolonged periods of sitting, standing, or moving around. May occasionally need to lift small items or equipment.
