Reporting to the GC Products Operations Manager, the Jr. / Apprentice Machinist supports the programming, setup, and operation of CNC routers and foam cutting equipment. This role focuses on learning to produce custom molds for cement-based and gypsum-based architectural products while developing skills in CNC machining and mold fabrication. The Jr. / Apprentice Machinist is expected to take direction from and work under the mentorship of senior CNC Programmer/Operators.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Learn to create and prepare working drawings and files for mold fabrication.
  • Assist in the setup and operation of CNC routers from start to finish under supervision.
  • Develop proficiency in Enroute & Mastercam software for CNC cutting and file preparation.
  • Support the CAD and Molding fabrication departments with general tasks.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
  • Assist with routine preventive maintenance on CNC machines and related equipment.
  • Monitor stock material levels and assist in the verification of received materials.
  • Learn and follow all GC Products safety standards and OSHA requirements.
  • Train to safely operate a counterbalance-type forklift.
  • Inspect the accuracy of completed molds and assist in final fabrication adjustments.
  • Participate in manufacturing efficiency and continuous improvement programs.
  • Safely move up to 50 lbs and transport materials between the floor and worktables.
  • Actively participate in educational opportunities to update job knowledge.

Minimal; less than 5%.

Qualifications
  • Basic ability to read and interpret shop drawings or blueprints.
  • Strong desire to learn CNC machine operations, including reference planes and machine parameters.
  • Ability to receive and execute detailed instructions from managers and senior staff.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to work well within a team environment.
  • Demonstrated punctuality and reliability.
  • Basic computer literacy and an interest in learning specialized design software.
  • Manual dexterity and experience with hand tools or power tools.
Physical Demands

The role requires standing for prolonged periods, repetitive hand motions, attention to detail, and the ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 lbs.

Work Environment

Primarily operates in a manufacturing setting with exposure to varying temperatures, loud noises, and dusty conditions. Required PPE includes safety glasses, and steel-toe/composite boots.
