Instrumentation and Electrical Technician

Overview

The Instrumentation and Electrical Technician is responsible for troubleshooting, repairing, replacing, and performing preventative maintenance on electrical and electronic systems, controls, and equipment. This position reports directly to the I&E Supervisor.

Key Responsibilities and Duties

  • Perform inspections, repairs, calibrations, and troubleshooting on equipment in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Work with the Maintenance Planner to schedule and complete preventive maintenance on equipment.
  • Read blueprints, wiring diagrams, schematic drawings, or engineering instructions for installation, commissioning, and repair of all types of process instrumentation and distributed control systems/equipment, applying knowledge of electronic theory and components.
  • Ensure all repairs and calibrations are in compliance with all company and industrial regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Work with 480-Volt 3 Phase power and equipment controls.
  • Assist in defining calibration standards and work procedures.
  • Assist in mechanical maintenance as needed.
  • Monitor parts inventory levels and communicate any issues to the Maintenance Planner.
  • Enter work orders into the system.
  • Assist with Lock Out/Tag Out procedures.
  • Identify potential safety issues and make recommendations for action or resolution.
  • Maintain a clean and organized maintenance shop.
  • Aid in Emergency Response (HAZMAT, Confined Space Rescue, and First Aid)
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience

  • 18+ years of age
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 2+ years of apprenticeship, vocational, experience, or education preferred.
  • Explosive or chemical manufacturing experience preferred.

Skills and Knowledge

  • Must have working knowledge of the following topics: pH, flow, temperature, pressure, conductivity and mass measurements, AC and DC control methods, 24V – 480V, (4160V & 12.47V 3ph) electrical systems and troubleshooting, VFD's, burner controls, smart meters, PLC/DCS control methods, automated systems, vibration monitoring systems, load cells, control valves, blueprint reading, mathematics, and preventive/predictive maintenance.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with various departments and team members.
  • Ability to wear and work in required personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Ability to climb ladders and stairs, lift and carry up to 50Ibs, and work at heights.
  • Ability to work overtime as needed, including holidays and weekends.
  • Knowledge of control and electrical theory fundamentals.
  • Familiar with CMMS software and other required applications.
  • Possess basic Microsoft Word & Excel skills.
  • Possess basic math skills.
  • Possess reading and comprehension skills.

Work Environment

US Nitrogen, LLC operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. This position will be exposed to all elements of the weather on the plant site.
