Job Title: Electrical Apprentice
Job Description
The Electrical Apprentice supports licensed electricians in the construction, installation, testing, and maintenance of electrical systems, with a strong focus on commercial and renewable energy projects. This role offers hands-on training in solar canopy electrical systems while ensuring compliance with safety regulations, electrical codes, and project specifications.
Responsibilities
- Assist journeyman electricians with the construction, installation, testing, and maintenance of electrical systems in commercial and renewable energy projects.
- Support the installation of conduit, wiring, cable trays, junction boxes, panelboards, inverters, disconnects, and other electrical equipment.
- Assist with the assembly and installation of solar canopy electrical systems, including photovoltaic (PV) module wiring and equipment interconnections.
- Read and interpret blueprints, electrical drawings, and project specifications under supervision.
- Perform wire pulling, terminations, grounding, bonding, and basic electrical testing activities under guidance.
- Assist with troubleshooting and correcting electrical issues as directed by journeyman electricians.
- Maintain tools, equipment, and work areas in a clean, organized, and safe condition.
- Handle, load, and transport materials and equipment throughout the jobsite in a safe and efficient manner.
- Follow the National Electrical Code (NEC), OSHA regulations, and company safety procedures at all times.
- Work collaboratively with electricians, solar installers, equipment operators, apprentices, laborers, and other construction personnel.
- Operate or work from scissor lifts and other aerial lift equipment as required and as trained.
- Complete apprenticeship training requirements and maintain accurate documentation of on-the-job learning hours.
- Participate in safety meetings and training sessions and apply safe work practices in all tasks.
Essential Skills
- Basic understanding of electrical theory and electrical construction practices.
- Ability to install and assist with conduit, wiring, and related electrical components.
- Foundational skills in conduit bending and pulling wire under supervision.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and electrical drawings with guidance.
- Basic proficiency using hand tools and construction tools safely.
- Ability to read tape measures accurately and perform basic math calculations.
- Strong work ethic, reliability, and consistent attendance.
- Willingness to learn and follow instructions from journeyman electricians and supervisors.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds regularly.
- Ability to climb ladders and work from aerial lifts and at heights using fall protection equipment.
- Physical ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and reach frequently throughout the workday.
Work Environment
Work takes place primarily outdoors on public open space and active construction sites. You will work alongside other apprentices, laborers, electricians, solar installers, and equipment operators in a team-oriented setting. The role involves frequent standing, walking, bending, kneeling, and reaching, as well as regularly lifting up to 50 pounds. You will climb ladders, work from scissor lifts and other aerial lifts, and perform tasks at heights while using appropriate fall protection equipment. Expect to work in varying weather conditions throughout the year, following all safety procedures and using standard construction and electrical tools and equipment.
Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract position based out of Albuquerque, NM.
Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $24.00 - $36.25/hr.
