OVERVIEW:

Pattern maker SI is an entry-level position responsible for assisting in the construction and maintenance of wood and composite patterns used in GIW's foundry operations. This role is ideal for individuals starting their career in pattern making or woodworking, who are eager to learn, grow technical skills, and contribute to a safe and productive team environment.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Follows all safety procedures and promotes a safe work environment.
  • Assists in the construction of basic patterns under supervision.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of work area.
  • Supports senior patternmakers in layout, measuring, and assembly tasks.
  • Learns to read and interpret simple engineering drawings in both metric and English units.
  • Performs basic quality checks under guidance.
  • Begin learning and applying General Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Operates basic woodworking tools and equipment safely.
  • Works with fiberglass and urethane materials with direction.
  • Communicates clearly and works well in a team-based environment.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Technical coursework or vocational training in woodworking, drafting, or manufacturing preferred.

Experience:

  • 0-2 years of experience in pattern making, woodworking, or related mechanical trades.
  • Basic understanding of shop tools, measuring devices, and blueprints is helpful.
  • Strong desire to learn and develop pattern making skills.
  • Must demonstrate reliability, attention to detail, and ability to follow instructions.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Frequently:

  • Standing, walking, sitting, bending, squatting, stooping
  • Lifting, pushing, and pulling up to 50 lbs.

Occasionally:

  • Overhead work
  • Climbing ladders or stairs
  • Operating cranes and forklifts (training provided)
