CTB FIBER OPTIC SERVICES, INC based in Port Barre, LA, is looking for motivated individuals to join our team as Fiber Optic Technician Apprentices. We can perform our services in new or existing, aerial or underground builds, as well as in POPS, remote sites, OCEF cabinets, transmission equipment, Fiber Management Systems, within any rack equipment. We have the experience and ability in building many types of enclosures to include 3M, Coyote, Raychem, Fiberdome, Ditel, Windsor, ACT, Tyco, CommScope among many others.

We are looking for a few good people to join the team. No experience necessary. Start your career in the telecommunications industry today! Positions are available for individuals with a valid driver's license. This is an offer for full-time employment. We encourage all who are interested to apply.


Individuals will be given on the job training and quickly brought up to speed to perform tasks such as job setup, cable pulling, fiber splicing, fiber testing and network troubleshooting. Fiber Optic Technician certification will be available to all employees after three years with the company. All who apply will be given serious consideration.


What You’ll Do

As a Fiber Optic Technician Apprentice, you’ll work alongside experienced professionals to learn the ins and outs of fiber optic installation and maintenance. Your day-to-day responsibilities will include:

  • Perform splicing of fiber optic cables, both fusion, mass fusion and mechanical, to include terminating various types of connectors.
  • Construct proper splicing in fiber enclosures and fiber termination panels to include grounding, bonding, isolation, storage and sealing in both aerial and underground applications.
  • Plan and install fiber distribution panels, relay racks or cabinets with all associated hardware and electronics in a head end or OTN site.
  • Execute large fiber count ring cuts/hot cuts during scheduled maintenance windows with minimum downtime to the network or customer services.
  • Perform fiber audits to identify the physical characteristics of existing fiber plant from fiber matings, terminations, colors to splices and network elements while documenting and updating records.
  • Perform testing utilizing OTDR’s, Power Meter/Light Sources, OLTS and VFLs; interprets and analyzes data; identifies and troubleshoots problems.
  • Read, create, and maintain accurate splicing schematics, records, and diagrams.
  • Perform aerial construction activities, including but not limited to, installing aerial fiber, installing fiber storage (snowshoes), completing pole transfers, and performing necessary clean-up work.
  • Perform underground construction activities, including but not limited to, pulling cable/fiber through conduits, digging up and repairing damaged conduit and underground vaults or pedestals.
  • Pull various types of cables, including, but not limited to fiber, coax, and copper in conduit.
  • Perform traffic control flagging duties for roads and highways as needed.
  • Ensure company assets are properly and continuously maintained in excellent operating condition while secured in a safe manner.
  • Accurately complete progress forms, daily activity reports and all other documentation pertaining to work assignments.
  • Survey jobs sites while considering all safety measures to ensure a safe working environment for associates, general public and property.
  • Oversee projects and delegates responsibilities to ensure safety, quality and productivity targets are met.
  • Responsible for mentoring, training, directing and supervising associates while on job sites.
  • Works closely with the Supervisor to plan, organize, coordinate and schedule projects.

This is a hands-on role that will provide you with valuable skills and experience in the fiber optic industry.


What We’re Looking For

We are looking for individuals with a growth mindset who are eager to learn and willing to put in the effort to advance into a Next-level Role within a year. Structured 6-month performance reviews given.


Here’s what you’ll need to succeed:

  • A strong work ethic and a positive attitude.
  • Physical ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs regularly and up to 100 lbs as needed, with or without assistance.
  • A willingness to learn and grow within the company.
  • A commitment to safety and quality in all tasks.
  • Valid driver's license and clean motor vehicle record
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Work indoors and outdoors as needed
  • Able to be on call for emergencies involving damaged cable
  • Organized with a strong attention to detail
  • Day Shift (Required)
  • Night Shift (Required)
  • Overnight Shift (Required)
