Responsibilities: 

  • Aid the Electrical Foreman on the completion of industrial electrical projects 
  • Bend conduit, pull wire, and utilize standard electrical testing equipment 
  • Take continuous direction from Electrical Foreman 
  • Learn to use common hand tools and apply basic math for the electrical department  
  • Support other apprentices, journeyman, and foremen on various projects. 
  • Follow instructions from foremen and supervisors to ensure tasks are completed efficiently. 
  • Keep the job site clean and well-organized. 
  • Handle the loading and unloading of materials, tools, and equipment. 
  • Ensure attention to detail and follow safety standards 
  • Fuel and wash department vehicles 

Requirements: 

  • Participate in our employer sponsored DOL electrical apprenticeship through SEMCA.   
  • Mechanically inclined with common hand tools (tape measure, power drills, levels, screwdrivers, etc.). 
  • Electrical experience in the residential or commercial setting is a plus, but not necessary.   
  • Work from ladders, scaffolds, and roofs to install, maintain or repair electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures 
  • Proper handling and securing of material/equipment 
  • Knowledge of materials in the electrical field 
  • Arc flash training 
  • Ability to take direction 
  • Valid driver's license 
  • Basic Math & Geometry skills 
  • Preferred Requirements: 
  • Arc flash training 
  • Lock-out tag-out 
  • State of Michigan Registered Electrical Apprentice License  
  • Rough Wall - Device Prep, MC cable 
  • Devices/Trim 
  • Demolition - General Labor 
  • Hanger Assemblies 
  • Capable of Pulling Wire 
  • Labeling/Tagging/Matchmarking 
  • Dig trenches to lay conduit 

Equipment & tool experience: 

  • Aerial -lift Operation - Boom & Scissor Lift  
  • Forklift Operation - Material Handling up to 5000#(preferred) 
  • Telehandler (preferred) 
  • Benders, Threaders, Wire Puller (preferred) 
  • Chauffeur LIC/Med DOT Physical(preferred) 
  • Trailer Loading and Securing of Material(preferred) 
  • Meter – testing for voltage presence 

Rigging Requirements: 

  • Signal or verbally direct workers engaged in hoisting and moving loads to ensure safety of workers and materials. 
  • Utilize and understand the constraints of chains, synthetic, metal mesh, and wire rope slings.  
  • Use & recognize rigging hardware including hooks, shackles, wire rope clips, clamps, eye bolts, softeners and tag lines  
  • Identifies common load configurations & positioning 
  • Rigger 1 training – trains on above 

Physical Requirements: 

  • Must be able to ascend/descend ladders, scaffolds, stairs, and/or operate scissor/boom lifts while working at height.  
  • Work in permit & non-permit required confined spaces and in proximity to loud equipment.  
  • Must be able to lift and carry or otherwise move up to 50 pounds regularly/occasionally  
  • Must be able to respond quickly to auditory alarms, visual signals, or other effective means to communicate hazards  
  • Must be able to move safely over uneven terrain or in confined spaces.  
  • Must be able to work in cold/hot environments.  
  • Must be able to traverse irregular and steep terrain.
